What do you think of Tigers in the Mud if you've read the manga?

I loved the way Miyazaki adapted Carius, and the stupendous artwork. I can see why some people might object to how he portrays the Germans in his manga, but I would say that it really is about things that are true of all soldiers everywhere at any time: the tedium of war and how difficult it can be to stay alive and outflank your enemy. Also, Carius and his larger units didn't have any connection to war crimes, and I think he was a good person after reading the larger memoir that this story came from.

One of the best things about Miyazaki's manga is the way they show how funny he is! The part about the miserable living conditions for the Panzertruppe, stuck in their tank all the time was strangely humorous, and of course the pig faces were hilarious. We have entire Soviet and German armies of Porco Rossos.
