The underwater sea school scene was so cool, I've always wondered if there were other underwater sea kids other than the main 4.
And damn, Manaka losing her ena? No way. Hikari has gotta be Manaka til the end!

This episode...had a lot of progress to say the least.

Can't wrap my head over the overall theme. Now they're talking about equivalent exchange, which would explain Miuna's ena. Also can't say this development is one I like.

That was quite an adventurous trip
Leaving Miuna behind for a second by Hikari and Kaname seemed like a blunder to me, since she has never been to Shioshishio

Seeing the people hibernation it looked like a visit to the wax museum or a graveyard negatively thinking

Finding Manaka on a hand near pile of wooden puppets made her look like a sleeping beauty
That entire scene was fabulous to follow

Another good episode,if Manaka lost her ena it's highly possible that she'll live on the land, but i wonder who will she live with?

i noticed a nice piece of guitar play in this episode btw, and it seems it was DEPAPEPE's, their name appear on the credit. They did an excellent job as always

Wasn't Uroko implied to have been in love with a woman of the sea in the past?
If that's true, I bet it was Miuna's mother :D

In the subs I watch (horriblesubs) Uroko said he was in love with a human girl at one point, not a woman of the sea, ill be pissed if that was translated wrong, seems like a major point. Also where were the bodies or skeletons of the real girls sacrificed to the sea god. I guess that would have been way to friggen creepy. but they did say they used to sacrifice real girls. 1 more point, been watching the first half again and there is alot more to support TsumuguXManaka than most of you give credit for. Doesnt mean it will happen, but its not just an open and shut case. Tsumugu definately has strong feelings for Manaka even if they aren't romantic

I really wonder what is going to happen now that they have taken Monica away? That would kind of suck if the world was set into perpetual chaos because of that. It seems like someone needs to be sacrificed in order to keep everything in balance. There must be some significance to Miuna being the only one who is able to hear that sound as well and being the only one who Uroko appeared to? So far I like the second half more than the first half, there seems to be more to the story now than just a massive wave of love interests gone wrong.

Traveling at their hometown, Shioshishio, with a few reminisce, of their place.

Yup Manaka, is back, but a surprise one where her Ena is dissipating. Want to see their reactions on where Manaka came back, and her reaction of the 5 year change next episode. But her disappearing Ena, I want to why she is losing it.

At least Miuna got what she wanted, seeing Shioshishio and saving manaka too I guess
I wonder what Tsumugu will think, maybe he had some kind of crush on her, since both of them really had a "special enconter", I really thought that the story was about those 2 xD
Don't tell me that Manaka will be a normal human :o and miuna will be a person from the sea o.o

I feel you. This show has been a blast to watch. I feel bad for almost not picking this up. You can see I'm glad I did though. I believe you left out the ena part though.

I didn't bring up the Ena because I am not entirely sure where this is going, however if I were to speculate, Manaka losing her Ena would be the biggest test of the four friends possible. Will Hikari give his up to stay with her on the land, will Chisaki feel guilt that Manaka cannot return and give up her feelings for Tsugumu, will Tsugumu feel guilt that Manaka cannot return home (but Chisaki can) and settle on Manaka (don't forget that Tsugumu has always felt as if there was a permanent barrier between him and the other four, this barrier would not exist with an Ena-less Manaka). And now that Miuna has one and Manaka doesn't how will that change the dynamics?

If the Sea God wanted to test his people, I cannot think of a better way of really mucking with the emotions of the 4 then by taking one, and in particular Manaka's, Ena away.

In the end I think fate will be decided by Hikari, it was his defection (combined with his sister's) that really angered the Sea God (remember the cyclone) and started this situation, so it will be up to him to end it.

What this ending will be I have no idea, I am hoping for the happy end. That the love of the sea village will prove strong enough to make the Sea God reconsider, and that many on the land, being reminded of the importance of the sea will decide to emigrate replenishing the village. After all what more could a jealous god want than willing adherents?

"I just wanted to see the Sea Villiage" is nothing more than a child's fib

Miuna "just wanted to see the Sea Village" is a lie, she just wanted to be part of Hikari's group. To be able to see Hikaru's (and her mom's) beloved Sea was a factor to get into the group, as everyone came from the Sea. That's why she marked her length as well.

In the end the feelings for Hikaru grew so much, she probably wished to replace Manaka. The girl from the sea, who had Hikaru's heart. But even after she gained Ena and was able to enter the Sea Village, Hikaru barely cared at all. All he wanted to do was to find Manaka. Once Manaka appears Hikaru and Kaname runs off to Manaka telling Miuna to stay behind, and as Miuna looked at Hikaru Uroko appears saying "Oh so that's what you were looking for" most likely refering to Hikaru's heart/love. "I just wanted to see the Sea Villiage" is nothing more than a child's fib. That's why Miuna replies with. "It's just like you said"

"Once something appears, something is lost"

The reason why Manaka got her Ena taken away was probably as punishment(+she was a sacrifice). Manaka held a great love for the surface, while the Sea God saw the people of the surface as a treat. More over Miuna probably gained her Ena after Hikaru had awaken(the moment she gained Ena she also heard Manaka's fading Ena), making her desire to be part of the sea grow bigger, but once Muina gains Ena her curiousity to the Sea Village also grows, since she could actually go and check it out now. Nonetheless Miuna was the only one who would hear Manaka's breaking Ena, she was also the only one who could lead Hikaru to the Sea Village.

#She gained Ena, could "enter" the group and the Sea Village, but this also caused them to save Manaka, the one she actually wanted to replace. So her desired Ena and her curiousity for the Sea Village lead Hikaru to Manaka.

#If she never gained Ena, she would never be part of the group and Manaka (probably) would have died.

Manaka losing her ena,so that's where Miuna got hers from.

Miuna is probably going to end up sacrificing herself so Hikari can be with Manaka.

I love this show. I am so EXTREMELY happy Manaka is back and we got to see Shioshishio again. I was honestly getting bored with all of this surface/Miuna stuff. I missed the beautiful scenery of the sea village. :(

I have to say though, I'm still on the Tsugumu x Manaka ship. IT HASN'T SUNK YET FOR ME. Eh, it's probably not likely just because Oyashiro-sama has cursed me and doesn't want my ships ever to be realized. But I will still hope for my lovely Tsugaka.

Speculating on what's happened.. okay well I honestly have no freakin' idea where this show is going. Obviously a bad thing that they took away Manaka. She was a sacrifice and you just can't go bargin' in and takin' away sacrifices from gods. I think that either:
- Miuna is taking away Manaka's Ena
- Manaka's Ena is taken away because they took her back
- Shioshishio's people won't wake up because they took Manaka away

Who knows though.

As far as Manaka jumping into the picture... she's going to be jumping into the MinakaxTsugumuxChisaki train or MinakaxHikarixMiuna train.

MINAKA X TSUGUMU 5EVAR tho. sorry.

I hated it. It didn't explain anything. Its like the suspense is building at a snails pace. I know 99% of people

probably won't agree with me. But I'm one of those guys where I need a very clear idea of...

1) Where I'm at.

2) Where I'm going.

"And finally the pin that holds everything together"

3) Why I'm going there.

Unless I know WHY it doesn't matter where I go. They might as well have just set there doing nothing the

whole episode, it wouldn't have mattered.

This episode didn't fulfill any of that for me hence why I hate it. The scale seems to know something, why

so enigmatic? Tell me SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that would give me a reason to even care for points 1 or 2.

All I saw in episode 18 was Hikari, is it? Just wanting to find Manaka. I mean... I would have at least asked

myself why she was where she was, OR EVEN what the Sea God's Scale guy talked to Miuna about, but alas,

no one even cared in the slighted to ask a FLIPPING question!? Wow... Just Wow...

MAIN REASON I DIDNT LIKE THE EPISODE.

So many questions, not even a whisper of an answer.

P. S. All though, the look the Sea God's Scale gave at the end it arguably the best scene in the episode for

me.

Manaka is back! It is a little confusing as I thought she was the sacrifice for the sea god, but it seems she's all right except for her ena.

Call me crazy, but I'm expecting the ice hole to suddenly freeze over next episode, with Manaka rapidly losing her ena.

Random Theories (Yeah these are just random so these theories conflict with each other. The ideas are not solely mine because I'm reading posts here and in other forums. I'm just sharing some thoughts.)

A. Why is Manaka shedding her Ena?

1. Manaka confessed it to the sea slug (as someone already posted here). If you watch the last meal episode, Manaka didn't want to sleep and she told Chisaki and Kaname that she wishes she didn't have Ena. Manaka went back to her room after that scene (and thought of hikari) and saw the slug. The sea slug might have powers that can grant a person's wish. Heck, it can even be the Sea God.

2. Sacrifices do not have Ena. If you recall the story of the Ofunehiki, the girls who became sacrifices were from the surface hence they do not have Ena. The Sea God might be the one who caused her Ena to shed so she can become a proper sacrifice.

3. Manaka saved Miuna. Miuna was drowning before she had her Ena, right? Manaka might have seen/felt/whatever Miuna when she was drowning and calling Hikari.

B. Miuna's Ena

1. Read A.3.

2. Uroko-sama saved Miuna. Miuna was drowning and Manaka was shedding her Ena so why don't he just give it to the drowning girl. Uroko-sama was helping Miuna anyway (as seen this episode) and uses the scales to lead her the way.

3. The Sea God saved Miuna. Manaka is shedding her Ena and Miuna is special and is a key to solving the problems so he saved her.

C. Why didn't Uroko-sama stop them from taking away Manaka?

1. Because it's ok. If you watch episode 11, Uroko said the Ofunehiki doesn't have any meaning or power. The people from before suffered from DROUGHT and thought that the Sea God was angry so they sacrificed girls to the God.

Note that the Ofunehiki was done because of drought and not Ice Age. I believe the Ice Age is only caused by the lack of the Sea God's power. The first Ice Age was caused by the Sea God's MOVING AWAY because he was saddened by the people going to the surface. That was solved by the girl who swam and talked to the Sea God.

The case now is different. The Sea God is WEAKER and it won't be solved by just talking or sacrificing a person.

To stop the incoming Ice Age, they need the Sea God's powers. I can only think of two solutions:
1. Make the Sea God stronger. He needs believers and prayers. As to how they'll make the people believe, I do not know.
2. Replace the Sea God. This is kinda crazy but no one knows what will happen! :) IF they do replace the Sea God I think Hikari's a candidate because Uroko-sama said they are "his" descendants. Descendant of who?

D. Miuna's role

I believe Miuna is a key to this Ice Age and Sea God but I don't know what her role would be. I mean, everyone already noticed that she is SPECIAL.
1. Will she talk to the Sea God (same as the first girl from the first Ice Age)? Can be.
2. Will she replace Manaka as a sacrifice? That's also possible but the Ofunehiki doesn't have a power right? Miuna is raising some flag though like "protecting Hikari's smile".
3. Will she be the new Sea God? Why not?
4. Miuna's Mom is Uroko's love interest? Someone here pointed it out so I'm adding it in the list. That can explain why Uroko-sama helped her.

E. Something appears, something is lost
1. Probably the Ena. Sorry I can't think of anything else XD

There is one thing that made no sense in this episode. When Miuna exits the school and encounters Uroko, he asks what she is looking for. She says it's Manaka, and then he says she's lying. Then later when they meet again at the doll cave, he's surprised that that's what they were really looking for and says that "I just wanted to come to Shioshishio" is no more than a child's lie.
But Miuna never said the quoted phrase above! She said straight to his face they were looking for Manaka. What the hell?

She was never looking for Manaka. She wanted to be a part of Hikari's group. Yes she wanted to see Shioshishio but it was more so that she could have more connections to Hikari. Before it was the age difference but now that they are the same age she "might" be at equal footing. Now she has Ena so she is that much closer. Insert the fact that she put her height on the pillar next to Hikari, Chisaki, Manaka, and Kaname shows that she really just wants to be in that group. She wants to be seen by Hikari in the sense of how he sees Manaka.

There are lies we tell other people, and then there are lies we tell ourselves. "We're here to find Manaka" was the lie she told Uroko, "I just wanted to come to Shioshishio" was the lie she told herself.

Her real reason was that she wanted to help Hikari. Hikari wanted to find Manaka, so that was what she said that reason to Uroko, but because she knew that finding Manaka means that Hikari will never love her, she was in a bit of denial came up with the "wanting to come" reason. Uroko, being a god, knew this. This is why he said what he did, forcing Miuna to confront the reality that with Manaka back, she chance for Hikari is over. This is why she teared up, but bravely went forward accepting it. Uroko then said his "when something appears, something is lost", while it also covers Manaka losing her Ena, it was primarily directed at Miuna.

So basically Miuna ended up sacrificing her feelings for Hikari, because of this Hikari could find Manaka.

There was much more depth to that scene that this. Uroko discovered something about himself that he didn't like, that's going to have some interesting ramifications the next couple of episodes :-)

It probably has something to do with those three not being in the village when the hibernation occurred. Also I do not believe that there is a connection between hibernation and her losing her Ena, that has something to do with the Sea God.
