From north to south, from east to west, everything in between has been plunged into terror, darkness and flames. The peaceful times of the world now seem far off in the distant past if there were anyone left to remember those times.
Natalie was a current survivor of this dark time when zombies have risen and have spread their infection to zombify humans to everyone. Walking in what use to be the busy city of Los Angles, It was dead silence except for the wind rustling past. Natalie was carefully making her way back to her safe haven. She meant to be there an hour ago before it got dark but ended up leaving later than planned. Moving quickly and as quietly as possible, she listened closely for any sudden noises. Ready at any moment for an attacker to jump out at her she kept a pair of daggers in her boots and a semiautomatic pistol on her belt. As she continued to move she heard quiet footsteps that didn't belong to her. She looked into a dark parking garage to her left as she passed on by trying to pinpoint where they were coming from. She stopped for a moment and listened. They had stopped walking, but why? Turning around getting a 360 degree view she didn't see a single one near her. More cautious now she continued on her way in the dark.

They should be following me like they always do. Where the hell did they all run off to? Natalie kept listen for those footsteps she had heard earlier but came up with nothing but the sound of her own. Something had to have caught their attention away from me. There’s no way they would just leave a human like me untouched.

Natalie making it to a storage building began to unlock the door when she heard heard noises coming out from the shadows across the street. She turned and kept her eyes behind her while she tried to find the correct key.

Don’t tell me they've been here this whole time waiting for me. She struggled with opening the door so she turned back around to the door. “Come on.” She yelled in frustration. “Now is not the time to get jammed shut.” She heard moaning sounds relatively close behind her. Turning around she found several zombies coming out from the shadows. In a bit of a panic she shoved the door as hard as she could to end up flying through it as it opened. Getting up, she hurried and close the door as the zombies pushed back on her from the other side. With an arm or two through the crack of the door she reached down to her boot and grabbed a dagger. Cutting off a couple of arms she was able to shut the door and lock it. As they continued to pound on the door, Natalie had moved away from the door and pulled down the second set of reinforced steel walls and latched them to the floor. Now in the complete and total darkness she rummaged around for candles. Finding them she lit them one by one she lit them for some light. The inside appeared to be a refurbish apartment with most basic necessities.

She pulled up a tiny generator from one of the boxes and set up a laptop. She sent out a radio broadcast system from there to anyone that was a possible survivor who could meet up with her or if there was anyone out there who she could reach. She then walked over to the cabinet and restocked it with the things she had just brought back. As she walked back to her laptop, the sounds of the zombies could still be heard. She looked over at the arms that she had sliced off, now sitting in a pool of blood. Putting on latex gloves she picked them up and took them to a mini lab in the back compartment of the storage house. She began to study the arms in search of a way to prevent becoming a zombie and a possible antidote to help others who had been turned. The pounding from outside got louder and louder, then suddenly stopped.

I wonder where they are going? Natalie thought for a moment when the arms started moving. Reacting as quickly as she could she took a candle and set them ablaze. She watched as they twitch while burning till they were just a pile of ash. “So much for trying to study them.”Leaving the ashes there she walked back to her computer to see if anyone had tried to reply to her message. Seeing no one she sighed. Looking at the blood left on her floor she took a few samples and examined them figuring the blood couldn't attack her.

After a few hours had past, Natalie was still analyzing and writing down her observations and things to try in hopes to find an immunity to the zombie’s infectious disease. She looked at the clock and realize how late it was getting. She rubbed her eyes which had begun to hurt from looking at her slides for so long. She decided to give it a break and took her journal, where she had recorded her findings, She sat down in a chair and looked at her laptop again. Nothing had responded to her. She left the signal running, and flipped through her journal again. Everything she could write down that might be helpful was recorded within it. She stopped on a page and began reading it, in the dim light she had along with the silence……..

It’s quiet…… They stopped awhile ago and never started up again like they usually do… Natalie looked at the time again. It’s not daylight out yet, but they’re quiet like they aren't there. She walked over to the wall where the door was behind and listened carefully for any signs of someone on the other side. She could hear the whistling of the wind but nothing else. She turned away and took a few steps away and stopped. Her curiosity of where they went off to urged her to out and take a look. She knew if she went out now it would put her safety in the worst possible danger but the urge kept pushing her to take a look.

Maybe someone else is out there? A person who received my message but couldn't reply? She debated in her head as she stood there in the middle of the room. But why would they be traveling at night? That’s the worse possible time to go out. Natalie began to pace a little. Maybe they were found and forced to find me or be caught and turned into one of them? She continued on with her internal debate and pacing when all the candles suddenly blew out. The only light left was coming from her laptop screen halfway across the room. Natalie, not sure of what just happened, rushed over to a part of the room in the dark and grabbed a supply backpack she had made in case she had to get out fast and pulled out a flashlight. Turning it on she began to slowly look around the room…..

Her laptop had began to beep, signaling it had found something. She didn't see anyone or anything in the room so she took a few matches and relights the room before walking back over to her laptop. It had picked up on someone else's radio message. She listened to Logan’s message but couldn't get it through clearly. She was able to pick up only bits and pieces, so she tried to send a reply. “Hello? This Natalie. I’m a survivor in Los Angles. Is there someone there?”

Hearing more beeps coming from her laptop she tried to play them through but once again only came up with pieces. "I can't receive a clear message from you without static so I hope you can hear me. But anyways my name is Natalie I'm in an old storage building on Grand Avenue. Be careful if you're coming to where I am." Natalie hoped her message got through when she heard the familiar pounding at the door from the zombies but this time it sounded louder.

"I was wonder when you guys were coming back." She loaded her pistol and unlatched one of the walls. She walked out of her safe haven area into the what was actually left of the storage area. The zombies were still outside of the area but there were a lot more of them as if they had multiplied while the were silence. She stood there and looked at all of them trough the door window. By the looks of it the door wasn't to hold them back if they kept up what they were doing. "Let's hope this guy can find me before they get to me." She fired the gun a few times through the window at a few heads. As they were shot they stumbled back falling.

Natalie kept firing when she thought she heard something other than her and the zombies. She notice several of them headed toward something else. "Where the hell are you going this time?" She continued firing at the ones that headed for her, figuring that she would find out what the other ones were doing when she was finished with these.

Finishing off the last few after her she could hear other shots being fired. Someones here. She opened the door and carefully stepped out. Natalie found the rest of them outside being slaughtered by someone else. She began to shoot a few from behind since they all seem to be focused on Logan. As she continued firing she didn't notice the disassembled arm behind her on the ground was moving toward her.

Natalie looked down at the now crushed arm. "Thanks, I take it that you're the from the radio messages, right?" She looked at him, observing him for a moment. she then looked around then at the mess of bodies. The scene would have horrified any ordinary person but then again she had learn to deal with seeing things like this from the start.

"Yea that would have been me. I'm Natalie by the way and who might you be, if you don't mind me asking?" She walked beck inside and picked up her book and started to write something down as she talked and waited for his reply.

She finished writing and closed the book placing it on the table. "Well considering that pretty much everyone in the world right now is out to kill and eat you , I would have to agree. As far as I know your the only other survivor."

"Well bad times do tend to bring the worst out of people. And by the sound of it guess that means you move around a lot, since this whole thing started." She shut her laptop and sat down in one of the random chairs spread throughout the room.

"Makes sense. Seems like a lot of work to keep it running though." Natalie looked at her watch again to check the time, then back over at Logan. "So what brought you to LA?"

"Well there seems to be plenty of supplies around here just guarded by all of them. point of why I stay in here at least when it's dark out."
