Well, ANN is very reputable and from what I've heard its being produced ADV Films, which own the rights the EVA everywhere outside of Japan, basically. It won't be the first anime live-action movie made in the United States. Theres the upcoming DBZ movie, there was Transformers, and theres the upcoming Speed Racer movie directed by the Wachowski brothers. The fact that its live-action gives it more credibility to being American. Weta Workshops was the special effects company for King Kong & Lord of the Rings and I'm sure they wouldn't lie on their site. I think is real.

Well, ADV have confirmed that they want to make a live action Eva movie, and they've raised about 2/3 of the money they need for it, so I'd say it's definitely truth!

In fact, I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Yeh Iv been following the live action thing foe a while myself. I used to follow a lot on EvaMonkey, but unfortunately the Eva Monkey himself called time on the site :(.

You can tell how old that video is if you look at the names for the characters on the concept. Rei is Ray, Asuka is Kate Rose, these names were changed back after the community outcry.

~The 2nd link you posted is the same as the first.

Why does Misato look a gorilla in that picture? And why are Auska and Rei hideous? I hope they don't change Rei's hair colour for the movie ):

Rei looks good, Asuka is bad and Misato could use some work, but I wouldn't care if they changed Rei's hair color, Blue hair never looks real.

Rei and Kaworu are supposed to stand out somehow due to their angelic nature though. Maybe plain white might work? (refer to Mushishi live-action movie)

I cannot believe they will actually make the movie, there is too many complications to work out. They probably change it completely, American industries usually do that.

With ADV in their current state, I really can't see the live-action Eva movie going ahead :/

Although, perhaps if the DragonBall Z live-action movie is a success, they might try to get the project up and running again?

Nah, he might be a great, versatile actor, but he's too big and too old to play Shinji.

I thaught he was a bit too tall to play a hobbit, but what do I know.

ADV still seem to be insisting that this project is in pre production and casting. David Williams has been reported to have said it is in production and it has a director sighned on and seecured financing at Anime Weekend Atlanta 13, which would be as of sept 2007.

I guess we just have to wait and see, but they already seem to have invested a fair amount of time and money would be a waste to drop it now.

it'll be real nice if this project does push through, even though it's been 5 years (i think?) since adv announced this.

however, since this would be a hollywood version of eva, i'm expecting this to have more action and less philosophy. as for the 3 pilots, i think they should do a "harry potter" - cast real 14 year olds in the lead roles and let them grow along with the characters. also, they should turn into (at least) a trilogy, since there's just a whole lot of ideas that would be lost if they cram the 26-episode series into a single movie.

The way he pronounces 'Evangelion' really irritates me.

The movie; I can't begin to imagine this actually being good. All I can picture is it completely ruining the franchise.

I know one thing if they do make a live action movie they better watch what they do or there will be millions of fans ready to burn down the studio. They will have to think long and hard about who they get to play the cast and leave the story he way it is. I would love to see a live action remake but I really do not think they could get it write. I have seen 2 live action movies that were on the money, one being Blood the last vampire and the other being Death note. Dragonball was an EPIC FAIL!!!!!

So who would play the people in the Live action movie? I really can not think of anyone that would be good at it. If anyone tells me keanu reeves you FAIL.

Only thing I have found that is from this year.

Ohayocon attendee Chris Adkins has been in touch to inform us that the studio discussions and fight for final rights of the Evangelion adaptation properties are in the midst of taking place, with everything still going ahead given the success of that other big robot movie, Transformers. Joseph Cho is in charge of the the Gainax/Studio relations and Matt Greenfield is hoping for some official announcements sometime in the next 9 months.

That could be true, or it could just be something they're saying to maintain interest in the project. Wasn't it being partially funded by ADV? I can't see that going in a good direction at this point.
Anyway, like most people, my opinion is that if it does go through, it can only live up to the highest possible standard of quality, and if it doesn't... well, I won't complain. Of all the anime I'd like to see adapted to live action, Eva is not high on my list. I just don't think any live-action production could do justice to the intensely personal and expressionistic nature of the animated series, particularly in some of the later episodes and movie in which it specifically took advantage of the medium to do things that would be implausible to impossible in live action. Also, attempting to recreate, say, The End of Evangelion in a live-action film would pretty much guarantee an NC-17 rating. So, by necessity, they would have to change a lot. But the thing about Evangelion is, if you changed a lot, it wouldn't be Evangelion, because every little detail adds up to make it what it is. It is a work that hinges extremely off of a single creative vision, and a cross-national, cross-cultural adaptation would be risky at best, and without any involvement from Anno even riskier.
