Hate episodes like this?

But this was awesome! Action, drama, romance, it had it all <3
Plus got me wondering what's next! I just don't want Kenshin to go alone, but i'm guessing the others will follow him! They have to~ T_T

Seems like Kaoru's been doing nothing but crying lately, but that's understandable. Kenshin had to go of course. Beautiful farewell sequence.

The anime portrayed this beautifully, perhaps even more-so than the manga. The addition of the children, the fireflies, Kaoru walking in the night to find Kenshin and the overall atmosphere/soundtrack just took this to the next level. I am actually re-reading the manga side-by-side with each anime episode so this is the ultimate experience.

This was a really pivotal, meaningful and emotional episode. The leader of the Meiji Era Okubo's assassination, followed by Kenshin's decision to go to Kyoto. He's leaving his comfortable peaceful life behind and walking into the darkness once more. That was a heartfelt farewell from Kenshin to Kaoru... man.

5/5.

One of the great moment in the anime history, the farewell scene between Kenshin and Kaoru. Everything in this sequence is beyond perfection. The anime adaptation of this chapter takes it to the next level.

I watch it sometimes when I wander on youtube, and it always captivates me.

That scene at the end where Himura tells Kaoru goodbye was beautiful, that it was.

This anime has gotten freaking AMAZING since episode 28. 10/10

The music in this episode was so powerful, I had to choke back tears. <_>

Seeing Kenshin and Saitou walk side-by-side after Okubo's assassination was so eerie after seeing them try to kill each other the previous episode. Saitou seems like he's going to be the Vegeta of Rurouni Kenshin: Kenshin's eternal rival, yet one of his strongest allies.

That's the role I was kind of hoping Sannosuke was going to play, but Sano ended up becoming a pushover after his grand entrance in the early episodes.

Hot damn... This episode was definitely something, we finally get to find out who the masked man is on the cover for this series, and Kenshin leaves, after hugging Kaoru (Finally a hug)

On a happier note... Collar fun!

Haha, the pic above is HILARIOUS. XD Am I the only one who honestly could not tell if the person who killed the secretary-of-whatever was a boy or girl? Looked kinda like Haruhi (OHSHC). Had to look him up on MAL. Seems friendly for a killer, lol. .3.

Oh, and loved the sweet-sad moments for KxK. :3 Someone was right, Kaoru really does look pretty when she cries. o.o

The farewell scene is still today one of my all time favourite anime scenes, the emotions, the music, the fireflies,Kenshin's speech...just perfect.
Cavalleria Rusticana fits so nicely.
When he hugs her and says "Thank you for everything.I am a wanderer.I must be wandering again.Farewell.." I always get emotional, beautiful.

The feels... (╥_╥)
Forever a wanderer.

Fuck man, that departure scene hit right in the feels. I didn't cried, but I was on the verge to let a tear. The music was so beautiful too.

Damn, I said that last episode was the best so far, but narrative driven episode at that level are something else... They have something special about them.

I wasn't far off the truth with my prediction. The killing was brutal, stabbed right in the forehead. I guess he at least had a quick dead, didn't suffered long.

People may have been complaining about the comedy before now but without moments that endear us to the characters like that, emotional scenes like this just wouldn't have the same impact, great episode.

I've been going through this series for the first time since watching it on and off during its Toonami run. I was only really half-watching, but when the sound cut out at the beginning of the firefly/farewell scene in this episode, it suddenly commanded my full attention. I sat transfixed for the entire sequence, then rewound and watched it again. This is the stuff classics are made of.

I liked that this episode went back to the softer, more episodic comedy nature of the earlier episodes to contrast with Kenshin leaving. And he and Kaoru embracing while the fireflies they promised to watch were nearby. It was heavy.

I'm rewatching Kenshin now after a few years and wow that ending is always so powerful it makes me teary 😭😭.
The song is from the intermezzo of Cavalleria Rusticana's opera, that's why it felt so familiar, I loved that opera and Pagliacci afterwards, that day was epic!

Now, onto more Kenshin episodes! Let Shishio saga begin!!

These past few episodes have been surpassing memory. The firefly scene is absolutely iconic and it's the one I remember best from the days of watching this on Toonami.

One thing I particularly enjoy about RK is seeing how the changing times are always a struggle to find the balance between what is necessary and what is good. Now that I'm a bit older, I can better respect Okubo's words about how much harder restoration is over revolution. Kenshin understands this firsthand which is ultimately what's resolved him to confront the shadows looming over him - both Shishio's as well as his own as Battousai.

I think the first season gets recontextualized in the narrative here. All the cutesy moments and comedy and cheesecake enemies were the exact change of pace Kenshin wanted to forget the revolution. But he couldn't ignore his past for more than a decade before it came back for him.

So I'm guessing this is it. No more comic-book bad guys for Kenshin to play around with. We're in for the serious plot progression now as Kenshin has to return to the former capital to face a past so that the country can have a future.

While have been hating that Kaoru was first introduced as a competent martiall artist who quickly got downgraded to weeping damsel, I feel that the departure scene is a moment that will stick with me for a good while. Don't think I've seen one quite a well done before. Final exchange of words, a hug, a thank you, a goodbye. Just the 2, no final gathering, no goodbye to everyone else, no looking back. It truely gave off a serious vibe where it could have been their final meeting ever as opposed to the classic running after them and proclaim that they'll go too. We're just left with Kenshin walking off into the dark with nothing but his sword while Kaoru is left alone to collapse from heartbreak :'(

Rewatching this episode after many years and the farewell scene sent chills down my spine. The direction, the choice of music, the moment and emotional weight that recontexutalizes the whole journey to this point where Kenshin has to abandon the current life he has to return to being a wanderer and Battousai again, all incredible. Not too much dialogue, but the gratefulness Kenshin spoke, the hug and the farewell were all super touching. The colors and lighting choices with the fireflies were a beautiful touch too that added so much to the atmosphere. The whole episode built up Kenshin's thoughts as to what direction he should take and it built up beautifully to that farewell scene.

The reboot's finale was solid but the music in that scene was such a turn-off whereas the one in this episode was beautiful and complemented the moment perfectly. Might be one of my favorite scenes in all of anime since I felt that emotional weight with that departure heavily, even with all the goofy shenanigans that the series has featured heavily beforehand. Perfect.
