I haven't been able to find the translation for it. I'm only caught up to episode 8 so far and didn't really browse through the episode discussions.

Considering the sins, grudge, and people get sent to hell for absurd reasons in this season, I wonder if there's a meaning implied in the word "mitsuganae"?

「三鼎」=mitsuganae
on the japanese web dictionary, goo dictionary, it is officialy "3 persons sitting in the shape of this character: 「鼎」 ,facing each other."
other than that, on gigazine news, the author/blogger explained that 「鼎」(kanae) is a cooking equipment used to boil/simmer food, which was the symbol of the King in Ancient China. Also, apart from boiling, it was also used for boiling criminals alive as a death sentence. So, it might have an abstract meaning of a "hell boiling pot"

imo, there's no need to think too much about the meaning of the title.. it's more likely that the creators just wanted the "3" in the word.. altho futakomori's meaning was quite obvious..let's just say the 3rd director is not as good ^^

I disagree; I think "kanae" probably would have made more sense to the Japanese audience (this show was intended for Japanese audiences anyways). Just because we can't make the connection without some research doesn't mean the title is bad.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Well , this is very like in episode 11
especially "3 persons sitting in the shape of this character: 「鼎」 ,facing each other."

i'm chinese, but have not learnt the chinese language.. but i get the image of the cauldron from those dramas i watched when i was younger. i just think it doesn't really represent the series itself.. what do you think?

yes that's what i thought as well.. but episode 11 doesnt represent the whole series.
the title definitely doesnt define the relationship between Yuzuki and Enma Ai, unless the third person refers to the Spider(Devil, Demon, I don't know) who has yet to get screen time this season.

i've read an interview on a jap magazine of the mitsuganae director, and the title wasn't explained clearly. he said that in this season, he's mostly trying to capture and discuss the social scene/problems nowadays and how the hell girl legend fits in. well, we can see this trend very clearly. in mitsuganae, the social backgrounds being portrayed are quite critical and serious compared to the last 2 seasons. either ways, i still dont see how the title fits in. i agree that it's a creative title, and the director is an innovative person who uses very fresh and different approaches tho.

三鼎, is referring to the fact that envy, and hate are similar to the 3 legs of a cauldron. (Explained in episode 14)

i just listened to the Jigoku Shoujo Web Radio.. and guess wat!
the director mr watanabe explained the title on the first broadcast.. lol..
actually, the title was suggested by the producer, ms/mrs. abe.
the first time the director saw the word, he thought it looked like an insect.. a spider.. lolz.. ^^; that would represent the evil spider who was ai's master in the 1st n 2nd season and hasnt appeared in the 3rd..
Mr watanabe said the word itself means things which are in balance with each other(like the way the chinese cauldron is balanced with three legs). he thinks that in the anime, it represents something like the balance between the three worlds (Hell, Heaven and Earth), and when the balance is disrupted, hatred and grudge fills the world.. hmm so Ai is the one who disrupts the balance?? O.O hehe

well, for those who are interested, try listening to the web radio.
