Who do you think will win the Zenkoku Taikai?

I know Zenkoku Taikai is still half a year away (and there's a chance the finals won't even be in this season), but I still would really like to know.

Who would you want to see come out on top? Kiyosumi or Achiga? Since Achiga is already the stars of their own series/side story, it wouldn't be a stretch to give them a surprise victory.

Or maybe Teru will be unstoppable?

NOTE: Post contains spoilers of both achiga-hen and the quarterfinals of the main series.

If anyone in Shiraitodai is going to win the tournament for them it will be Shibuya. Oohoshi will have her hands full, Matano is useless, even if Sumire overcomes her tell then Mako's ability is basically perfectly designed as a counter for her, and we've already seen that Teru power alone is not enough to win it for them. Oh, and that foreshadowing...

Achiga... to be honest, I think we've seen most of what they have to offer. And, while it is definitely enough to put them in contention, the only one with enough to win it for them is Shizu. Kuro's role will probably be limited to weakening Teru, enabling the other two to actually bring her to a stop. Yuu's performance will probably be stunted, in part due to a rivalry between the other schools, and in part due to the fact that she plays second, and the second player is never particularly significant. It'll be interesting to see how Ako does with her rivalry against Senriyama's Eguchi out of the picture, and with Hisa to contend with instead. But Hisa has had her period of weakness, and won't be an easy opponent to pull up. Speaking of which, Arata has shown the ability to lure people into thinking she's going for a different wait than expected. She has the potential to be a wildcard if there is more there than we thought. It would be interesting to see how Nodoka does against someone like that - she's always been up against either completely rational players or ones with monster-like powers.

The final match will be a battle of kans turning into a race against time as Shizu's powers gradually kick in. With, of course, a fourth player in the picture. Shiraitodai will probably be on top after Teru and Shibuya getting vast amounts of points, but they won't be unassailable. Achiga will probably be in fourth, and will probably see the biggest score gain of the four teams in the final players' match. But Saki has a habit of putting Kiyosumi in first while someone else gets the biggest score gain in the final player's match - Koromo got the most in the Nagano finals, and Kasumi Iwato got the most in the second round of the interhigh. And look what happened to both of their schools. It's happened twice already. It could easily happen again. My money is on Kiyosumi taking the win.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Actually, not really necessary, considering that the manga is proceeding at a snail's pace (1 chapter a month) and it's not even through the semi's yet, it is almost a guarantee that we will not see the finals in this season.

Even so, hopefully the topic is still a viable discussion?

It's on schedule at the moment actually, at two a month.

You should try it yourself, friend, or try remembering what happened before. The anime caught up with the manga before, and it is shaping up to be similiar again. The semi-final could easily be finishing in the manga by the time it's ready to air (especially if it's a two-cour season).

I'm not saying it will definitely have the semi-final, but to say it certainly won't is just dumb. The only thing we can be certain about is that the final won't air in S2. You absolutely don't have enough evidence to say it will only cover the quarters with such certainty.

It's not a 'certainty', more like Highly likely.
At best, this Zenkoku-hen would end up on the beach arc between Miyamori and Eisui. :D
... Considering current manga pace now (lieutenant start)... I don't wish the glorious semis to be rushed...

The last chapter of the game against Koromo was released around the same time as the game.

This time we will have a 6+ month gap between them.
Its unheard off to this with an ongoing manga, unless its an original end. We will get the 2nd chapter of the 3rd round at the same time the anime starts airing. You really think the semi finals will end within 15~ chapters? I doubt the semi finals will even be done before the end of 2014, if not later. While the anime will end in Spring(or summer if its split-cour).

The anime is an advertisement for the manga, it makes no sense for the anime to be 6+ months ahead of the manga.

Given that the author made even Achiga beat Shiraitodai in their semis, I think it's fairly safe to say that objective strength won't be the deciding factor in who wins the tourney in the end, so I'd say it's >99% chance of Kiyosumi vicory.

Given where the last chapter of the manga is at atm, it does raise the question as to how far this anime season will stretch, would somehow be really strange if we wouldn't see the finals but the fact of the matter is... the manga is too slow for it so there's no way it'll be included unless they pull some original ending out of it. Think they should be able to barely make the semis one way or another though.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, Kiyosumi does already have the objective best strength.

Well naturally, but Achiga sure as hell isn't objectively stronger than Shiraitodai, just meant that the way the author writes seems to be along the lines of the MC cast always winning in the end. In the case of Kiyosumi though this rather means that they're essentially guaranteed to win because they're probably the strongest and they're the heroines of the story.

Why is it so obvious that Kiyosumi has the objective best strength, exactly? Rinkai are leagues ahead of them from what we have seen so far. In fact, from Kiyosumi's players only Saki seems like she'd be capable of making their team at all.

This. So far Rinkai has shown their 'world-class players'.
And not to mention Venter plays next, and they has Megan who could wake up Cold Touka. Not to mention the last monster is World Junior Champ Fave, Nelly.
As of what Zenkoku will airs... Maybe they'll do until sergeant match (as well as animating Miyamori/Eisui beach scene) lol.

The main character lost.

Saki is the reason Kiyosumi is the objective best team.

Hmm, I don't think that's quite right either way. I mean, I can see why you could say that, and potential-wise I'd agree with you, but her mental problems on top of her current ability make it untrue in my opinion. So far we know that she got utterly destroyed by cold Touka, a flow specialist much like Nelly, and that she falls apart easily and way overestimates opponents sometimes.

Hisa is also not managing her particularly well anymore. Or at least, telling her to pretend she started the match with just 1000 points and then to play for +/- 0 was always asking for trouble in the way it put unnecessary pressure on Saki's already fragile mental state.

Then we have Rinkai, a team with world class players in every position (as far as we know, so far). Their team has no visible weaknesses, quite unlike Kiyosumi.

I'd say Rinkai>Kiyosumi=Shiraitodai>Achiga.

Rinkai seems more balanced, Shiraitodai is all about Teru while Kiyosumi has Hisa and Nodoka, that can pull something off and Achiga is all about plot armor.

The anime could do the "achiga" airing the next part of the semis after the anime has ended with some ovas.

My guess is that it will be either Kiyosumi or Shiratodai. But I'm leaning more toward Kiyosumi since Saki is the MC. Achiga and the other school seems to be more of an obstacle in Kiyosumi's way.

Really wish the manga would progress faster though. Cause it seems like the author is going to have the Captain's match of the Final Round be all 1st Year's with monster ability. So it's going to be Shiratodai vs. Achiga vs. Kiyosumi vs. Rinkai or Usuzan.
