He watches her teleport into the ring without fail and smiles. Next he makes two small rings the exact size of her feet. "Now I want you to teleport so that your feet are the only things in that ring." he says smiling again, knowing she could do it

This seemed like it would be quite difficult. She would need to divide her attention between the two rings, so she could be certain that she appeared where she was supposed to. There was no room for error this time. After studying each rings for a couple of minutes, she felt confident that she could pull it off. Unlike before, she kept her eyes on the circles this time, and called up her energy, releasing it.

He watches as she land perfectly within the foot shaped rings and a smile beams from his face. This had made him very happy indeed. He loved it when his pupils mastered things very quickly. It saved him a lot of trouble and exasperation.

Realizing that she had managed it, a smile came to her face. She knew better than to get too smug, but she couldn't help but feel at least a little pride. Learning things had never been a problem for her, and although she had worried that this would be more difficult, things were turning out better than she had hoped.

She nodded, resting her arms over his shoulders. Unlike when they usually trained, this time, she only felt the slightest bit of fatigue; she could easily ignore it if she tried. "I only have one question. Teleporting to familiar locations seems easy enough, but what if you want to go somewhere you have never been? You told me that you need to picture where you want to go, but that must be impossible in some cases."

She arched one eyebrow. That certainly seemed easy enough. It was clear that there was a lot that she was now capable of; things she'd never even dreamed possible before now. But she was looking forward to learning them from him. "What did you have in mind for our next lesson?"

"I think fighting experience would be most beneficial at this point. As long as we are together, if we are in danger, you can teleport us both to safety, but fighting experience is something one must learn on their own." She frowned slightly, looking down at the sword she had created for herself. "May I have my sword back?" She had become accustomed to using her magic to battle, but she wanted to keep up her skills with using weapons, as well.

She unsheathed her sword, taking a step back and settling into a fighting stance. Wasn't this just a few too many? Although... Her eyes followed their progress as they came towards her. They were slow. If this was truly their normal speed, she could easily avoid them, regardless of their numbers. Now, did they move in a pack, or were they solitary creatures? Jumping to one side, she slashed experimentally at the creature that was second to last in line. If they were a pack, the one on the end would move to protect its comrade. If not, they would all continue towards her, heedless of each other.

As she had thought; they were simply intent on the kill, blind to anything else around them. It also looked like she would have to put more force into her attacks. That wouldn't be too difficult. The first cut hadn't been meant to wound. Stepping back out of range, she spun in a circle, gaining momentum, which she then put behind a devastating blow aimed at the two closest creatures.

A growl grew in her throat, and she leapt backwards, thinking. All right, it looked like a sword wasn't going to work. At least not by itself. But what if... The enchantment she put on the blade should still be active. And even though she couldn't use her black flames, she could still use normal fire. If steel wouldn't work, maybe fire would. Concentrating, she called up the flames, letting them rise until she could feel their heat on her face. With a snarl, she jumped towards them again, making certain to stay out of their reach.

Leaning back to avoid its blow, she watched the flames spread. Excellent; this would work. Backing away, she resheathed her sword. To take out the group, she would need something more than this. Extending her arms out to either side, she took a deep breath. A wall of fire sprang up in front of her, cutting her off from the advancing creatures. Moving her arms forward, she forced the flames towards them.

Fire was extremely effective, but she needed something faster. The flames could injure her as well as them, if she wasn't careful. But what could... Her head rose suddenly as a thought came to her. A quick strike, stopping them in their tracks. Holding up one hand, she looked down at her palm, making sure to still stay out of reach. Within a few seconds, a whirling blade of wind had appeared in her hand. It resembled a boomerang, though it was made of ever-shifting, razor-sharp air currents. Drawing her hand back, she sent it flying towards the closest creature's neck, intending to decapitate it.

She clenched her teeth at the stinging blows, ignoring the sensation of the blood trickling from the cuts. None of them were serious, thank goodness; she could keep fighting. But they were faster than she thought they would be. She needed to end this, now. Closing her eyes, she wrapped her arms tightly around herself. A moment later, the wind picked up around her, until soon, she was cocooned within. It howled around her, and finally, it exploded outward, sending deadly shards flying in every direction.

This startled her. She had thought these creatures were the only ones she needed to defeat. She wanted to tend to her wounds and regroup before she had to fight again. But it was too late to do anything about that now. In a real battle, she wouldn't have the luxury of waiting. Almost without thinking, she placed one hand on the ground, opening up a deep chasm between her and the monster. It wouldn't be able to jump it, she hoped.

She leapt to one side, keeping her eyes on the creature. Bigger, stronger... A thought came to her, then. But it only had one eye. If she could blind it, she would have the upper hand. Chances were, it wouldn't be very intelligent, so it probably wouldn't know how to rely on hearing as its sole sense. Going still, she held her hands out in front of her, palm up. Within a few seconds, water droplets began to form. She then elongated them into needle-like weapons, and froze them solid. Drawing back one arm, she hurled the first volley at the monster, aiming for its eye.

Instead of trying to dodge, she dropped to the ground, creating a second fissure just in front of her, though this one was much smaller. As the boulder approached, she dropped down into the opening, ducking down below the surface so that she couldn't be touched. This wasn't good. It was smart enough to deflect attacks. What could she do...?

An eruption of steam suddenly issued from the fissure she was hiding in, and Virane pulled herself up out of the ground just far enough that she could use her arms. In her hand, she held more thin slivers, but these were different, somehow. They almost seemed to change color in the light. It cannot block the attack if it cannot see it! Once more, she let loose the slivers. These, unlike the others, were made of some sort of crystal, and absorbed the light around them, making them all but invisible.

A wicked smile came to her face as she sprang up out of the ground, sprinting towards the creature. It would be easy to finish it off now that it couldn't see her. Gathering her legs up under her, she leapt upwards, unsheathing her sword and aiming for the creature's throat.

She went still, not liking this at all. Her wounds from the first fight were beginning to ache, and she was finding it harder to concentrate. On top of that, three at once... She'd had enough trouble with one. What was Philip thinking?! Although she had been prepared for a test, wasn't this a bit much? ...no. If he sent them out, he must know that she could do it. If only she had access to her black flames... Breathing deeply, she forced herself to calm down. Kneeling, she placed both hands on the ground. When she raised them again, a thin, shimmering sheet of the same crystal she had used before appeared. It began to warp, forming itself into a vaguely crescent shape. Well, if she couldn't attack up close, she would do it at a distance. Turning herself at a right angle to the approaching monsters, she threw the crystal weapon to the left of the monster furthest on the right. The weapon immediately changed trajectory, and the purpose of it soon became clear as it curved inward towards them. It was a boomerang.

It would be difficult for her to get between both of them like this, but if she could get out of range of one, she stood a better chance. The problem was the second one. The timing was critical. She had to wait until they were both in range, until they were close enough for each one to reach the other.

Now! Faster than they could follow, she rolled forward, right between the legs of the creature in front of her, taking her safely out of harm's way. The velocity of the two clubs should be great enough that they couldn't change their trajectory in time, and if she was correct about her placement, her fight was soon to be over. Surely not even the thick skulls of these things could withstand the blow of a club that big, going that fast.
