I'm personally having trouble with the idea of your typical mahou shoujo protagonst having personality actually... Considering they all cry and are shy and innocent, I don't see how that's different from Madoka in that regard. However, she was never entirely passive and she steps up to plate at the end of it too. To be honest though, she's not my favourite character either, since I see her a foil for the other characters.

But your preferences are your preferences. I wasn't trying to start an argument just to be clear since you got all defensive.

You really haven't seen many "typical" mahou shoujo, so I don't know where your basis for this is.

Suite Precure - Hibiki is outgoing, friendly, has lots of friends and is ANYTHING but shy. She's very active and loves hanging out with everyone and gets quite a lot of growth.

CCS - Sakura may be innocent, but she's a fourth grader. She can't exactly be rebellious or whatever. She's a sweet, fun loving girl and her interactions and dynamics with everyone, along with her growth and development make her an amazing character.

Sailor Moon - Yeah, Usagi is innocent and a crybaby.. for maybe two seasons. She DEVELOPS and becomes quite the strong young woman.

Shakugan no Shana - This CAN qualify as a magical girl show, and I don't know if you've seen it or not but Shana is almost anything but that.

Basically -- don't say stuff if you haven't actually seen them. That's like me saying every single harem protagonist is a useless wimp or every shounen protagonist is a loud mouthed idealistic person. It's false and ignorant assumptions.

It's getting better imo. Seira annoys the shit outta me but I can overlook that. It'd be nice if they found a way to actually save these people who're being taken over.

For the people saying this is exactly like Madoka I disagree. Madoka was dark but it was a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, and it had the whole psychological aspect with all the characters and their fate. Daybreak Illusion is just a dark magical girl show, but yeah I agree they are trying really hard to out-do Madoka. It's good to see Akari get the resolve she needed!

What a gloomy third episode. Well, at least Akari's overcome her own BSOD. It was starting to be annoying, and I'm glad that her inner conflict isn't spilling over into yet another episode.

I really feel that this show has overplayed its hand and revealed its cards too early. Almost like it's trying too hard to outdo something...

People keep posting Madoka this, Madoka that, but the character designs and the feel really scream Higurashi to me...

Great episode but if we follow anime logic being a cute girl is the hardest existence XD.
Anyhow this was pretty good i hope it keep going like that.

Honestly this is pretty generic. The only thing bringing me back is the amazing OP by LiSA, and the character designs.

I think I'm done. May come back to it and one shot it once it's complete. It's got potential, I can see it becoming great. But with the huge list of shows I'm trying to watch this season, I think I'll drop this for now.

Urahara out!!

i feel like its trying too hard... the first episode was pretty good and created a nice start for all the dark stuff thats going to happen in the anime but the dark schemes feel forced to me, and there are a lot of characters, i dont know how its going to end up but i dont think we'll be able to know about each of them well, i'm not trying to compare it to madoka but madoka made a lot more sense to me, it was a lot simpler yet the simple plot was a lot more effective, ii feel like this one is just taking a bunch of random dark and sad schemes and throwing it together :S i might pick it up again depending on how it ends up but dropping it for now~

Somebody please kill that raven and cat already!

Anyway, good episode, finally. My choice to continue watching this was made. That ship and train story was pretty intense and main heroine power to talk with Daemonia looks promising.

If this show encorporates more darker themes, it would be great.

The only thing I quite don't like and that needs to improve is dynamic of those fights, sometimes music was off and something it just felt weird. I hope they get even better (storywise and animationwise) in next episodes.

Dammit it's always the animals.

I don't really know about this series. I don't particularly like it or dislike it.
Although I wish Akari would stay in her card form because I like her hair, her eyes, and voice better.

Eh, her emo naivety is a little annoying... so is everyone who's just letting her get away with it instead of telling her off.

It's a simple thought process, least for me anyway. Someone hurting/killing other people. Don't kill that person more lives are lost. Solution? Kill that person. The end. No guilt whatsoever. NONE. Wouldn't even think twice about it. Could do it while thinking about what I'm gonna eat for dinner ;P

Great premise, ruined by kiddy cast, this is why anime with elementary school kids are so annoying.

Killing them are fine, but you should feel somewhat guilty, still, there is no other choice other than to kill them off atm. If you don't somehow feel any guilt in yourself, then you lack the important "something" remain a human being. After all, you're still killing a human, even though you're saving lives.

And, great OP (LiSA <3<3<3) and ED.

So that whole thing where Akari can hear the voices of the Daemonia people is creepy...and all those dead body scenes are weird as well.

So she's supposed to be some "guinea pig"? Interesting. This show sure is dark!

I hate Seira so much. I can't help it. She acts like Homura.
I am glad Luna believes Akari at least.

Fire hair. *_*
And I like the battle scenes. Don't know, if I like the style yet, but definitely their hair is looking like plastic in many shots and that's somewhat ....to very unpleasant, when they are not fighting.
I can't feel for the characters yet tbh and I'm surprisingly indifferent towards the story.
