Just WTF was Mayalito thinking?

The King told her to go, and she chooses suicide for no reason.

What a pointless character.

Devotion to her kind, you know. I'm sure that there was more to it, but it was just very horribly done. What could have been an emotional moment just reeked of, again, bad writing.

Loosely related, but I had so many flashbacks of TES IV: Oblivion.

End of Mages' Guild Questline spoiler

I totally had the same feeling here. Just....okay? Go kill yourself then, I guess? Am I supposed to feel sad here or something? :s

This was by far the worst episode of the show so far. I've been digging the story, but this arc was stupid filler.

Agreed and it totally failed delivering any emotions for deaths because it was pointless.

the whole suicide thing was pretty bad but i do like the whole adventurous feel the past 2 episodes have had, this was considerably better than the terrible moon moon thing from ZZ

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Annoying tribe filler Part 2: Mixed tolerance of conflict.

Also, the King and that girl blow up because suicide.

What the hell was the point of these two pointless, out of left field, filler episodes they felt like a stupid and unworthy sidequest? Was is just to make the run time 50 episodes instead of 48?

I still fail to see how those episodes were more "filling" the airtime and more pointless than a lot of the previous one-shot meeting episodes.
Again, it was nice to see central/south america's future like we saw North America. This way, we got two different ways of dealing with the end of the world.

@CodeBlazeFate The King was blown up because he was ready to give up his throne to KaXxX, and maybe because he thought it would be easier for the warrior to kill him "indirectly". The girl was just showing stupid (to my taste) devotion and the fact she has nothing else than that in her life.

3/5 What's left after quasi- annihilation? In desperate times men cling to reassuring old beliefs and myths in order to continue living.

I could do with better faces drawings though.

The others actually developed the characters, such as Loran and Diana. Had this had any real impact in the characters in terms of growth or conflict or even adding to the plot in some way (like with Teteh and how it shows civilians such as her who hate the Moon race, whist also putting Loran into his first real moral conflict up until her death), then it would've been slightly more acceptable. This does nothing but say "here's a detour conflict that doesn't remotely matter in the end but at least this is a new place", which just isn't enough.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they couldn't do that well in the art and animation department given that they did Bebop a year prior and this was a landmark title.

Well, we never got any deep reasons for Mayalito's devotion, but we probably don't need them anyway.

At least there're WaD's destroyed by cool big spears. Yay.

Ok guys, I liked this episode a lot. The suicide thing made sense, it was their tradition. And Mayalito was devoted to her King. I found the entire mini plot pretty compelling. One of the best episodes yet imo.

Well I agree that these two episodes could have easily been cut, but regarding the Mayalito's suicide it feel's like west is clashing with east here.

I liked this mini arc, not the best of the show but absolutely not the worst.
The coronation scene was good, and it made sense for Mayalito to die for her devotion towards the king.
I'm curious to see how this anime will handle the space setting.
