| Yeah - except for the fact that this was not only a known issue for years and years now way before Planetes and NASA even has a real debris section since, again, before Planetes. Planetes was imitating REALITY in basing everything in it off of realistic known issues, realistic sections in groups like NASA and JAXA, and the only thing original in it was the space terrorists (which wouldn't be all that hard to imagine ending up real) and the fact it took place in the future. The only difference from real life to Planetes is that we don't have the money or technology to really set up a debris collection team just yet. However, even all the things they mentioned in the show (the technical terms specifically about space debris and different things about it) are all from real life. So, if anything, Planetes is just another example of billions where fiction imitates reality. |
