If anyone wants to recommend anything airing this season I'd be grateful considering the only ongoing anime I'm now watching happens to be One Piece... :/

Also we should probably have this kind of thread each time a new season gets announced

I like the idea, bro! <3
I'm watching EVERYTHING this season, what exactly are you looking for?

EDIT: Actually thats a lie. I'm watching everything that didn't have a drop-worthy first episode (ie: Aku no Hana, Data Red Girl).

You're also welcome to join a friend of mine and myself on this adventure, but by Sunday it will be to late. :p

Ha, as much as I would love to I haven't got time while I'm out here to sit and watch the first ep of 30 or so anime :/ Bearing in mind I'm also kinda surrounded by it out here (*cough* Akihabara *cough*)

I acctually don't know what I'm looking for, probably something action-y and another that's more along the slice of life genre. I figured I'd have to balance my viewing.

I'll probably end up watching A Certain Scientific Railgun S because I've watched Index, but never watched the spin-off which gives me another 24 or so eps to watch.

Nah, we'll probably only watch 15 shows at most, drop the not-so-good, and maybe come back to them individually come back to them once the seasons over.

Now, back to the topic at hand. For action, I would recommend Suisei no Gargantia. It seems kind of lame at first, but by the end of the first episodes, I was very intrigued and wanted to know what would happen next. Go read the MAL synopsis: http://myanimelist.net/anime/16524/Suisei_no_Gargantia
Judging by that, this could very easily turn into a Slice, but from what I've seen so far, its an action sci-fi.

Another action anime worth checking out this season is Shingeki no Kyojin (they are in a city surrounded by huge walls), which has a similar setting to Gurren Lagann (they are in caves). Attack on Titan (the English translation of the title) was not my kind of show, but I'm going to continue watching it to see where it goes. The reason I say this is because you have to watch the main characters mom get nom nomed by a giant. Grody. Another problem is its a 25 episode season, so you have to watch it until the Fall. MAL page:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/16498/Shingeki_no_Kyojin

Word on the street is you want to watch Slice of Life. You've come to the right place. Like Elsa's thing is shounen, my thing is Slice. Arguably the best genre, I find it very unique to anime. I think everyone in RNC should expand their viewing (including myself), I've noticed you all like shounen. I guess its hard to find people who watch all kinds of anime in RPGs, because those people don't have time for video games. I'm expanding my viewing by watching 80% of the animes this season.
The most prominent Slice this season is Yuyushiki. A lot of people are comparing it to my favorite show ever, (which I recommend to everyone, no matter what genre they like. Also, a lot of the characters are voiced by the same people) Yuru Yuri. I've watched the first episode, and I guess its similar in some ways, but I find Yuru Yuri superior. You should watch both.
Yuyushiki: http://myanimelist.net/anime/15911/Yuyushiki
Yuru Yuri: http://myanimelist.net/anime/10495/Yuru_Yuri
You should have asked me for this last season when Minami-ke Tadaima was airing! X.X
I plan to write an entire lay out of this seasons animes by the end of next week. Stay tuned! XD

PS: Acno, do you download your anime, or watch on gogoanime, or some other dedicated site (I pray to god that you download it).

Yeah, I saw a Shingeki no Kyojin AMV of the first ep and it looked good so I'll probably watch that and Suisei looks interesting so I might wait until a few eps of it have come out before I watch it.

As for slice of life, I watch some because its nice to have a break from shounen stuff, although I admit I don't watch a huge amount of it. I did watch Sakurasou last season which I enjoyed more than I thought, so I might try and get a slice of life one in once a season.

When I choose which anime to watch, I do it based on opening themes and videos - if I like the song and the intro looks good then I'll watch atleast the first episode. It might seem like a bit of an odd way to pick what I watch, but it seems to have worked so far. I also pick based off other's recommendations.

What's wrong with not downloading anime to watch <.< downloading takes waaaay too long and there are lots of streaming websites: animeseason.com/watchanimeon.com occasionally animefreak.tv for older series, but I've always streamed my anime.

Downloading a new episode takes 5 minutes. Just do it before you plan to watch. XD
Streaming has low ass quality. Their typesettings suck (how can you watch something with yellow subtitles? It's just gross! :P). Fansub groups are the way to go. Do like me and H0t N Spicey. Just ask him. He'll tell you, too. Look at all the releases out there!: http://www.nyaa.eu/
Isn't it better to have OPTIONS?

MAL DOESN'T CONSIDER SAKURASOU A SLICE OF LIFE. I have no idea why. Yuru Yuri is a good step into the genre. You should watch it.

Here's the [CoalGirls] release of it. You can choose between 720p and 1080p.
You can also stream it, but...
Blurays > 420p
http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=search&cats=0_0&filter=0&term=%5Bcoalgirls%5D+yuru+yuri

Make sure you get a torrent client before doing this
I recommend uTorrent:
http://www.utorrent.com/

But, if you prefer speed over quality, you can always stick to Chrunchyroll rip v0's!
Just sayin'. Downloading makes the entire experience better. :P

Okay, so here's where I'm at right now.

The Good

You guys should all check out Date A Live http://myanimelist.net/anime/15583/Date_A_Live and Hataraku Maou-sama http://myanimelist.net/anime/15809/Hataraku_Maou-sama! They are both great shows, and I'm 100% sure all of you will enjoy them.

Date A live is a shounen romance comedy. My favorite show this season. It's fantastically silly (a Fairy Tail kind of comdy), has (mostly) great characters. It keeps me laughing throughout, while still keeping you on edge with tension that should be expected from a shounen. You could also consider this anime a slice-of-life, if it wasn't for all the battles and whatnot. The romance is there too, but you should watch the first three episodes, and decide for yourself on it.

Maou-sama is probably the all-around best show this season. Another shounen romance comedy mix up, but is very different from Date A Live. Starting with the comedy, it is usually serious, where as Date A Live is silly. The first minute of the show was dark and serious, and I seriously felt like dropping the show, but it's only there to lay out the back story prior to the main character's arrival in modern-day Tokyo (I still question the animator's decision to show that girl getting attacked). Anyways, if you can bare through that, which I'm sure you can, you'll awarded with a great anime.

The Bad

Aku no Hana
EW! EW! EW!

All I can say is: the animation style is not for everyone.

The Meh

Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan)

I'm dropping it. There wasn't anything particularly bad about, it's just not my kind of show. You guys might like it. I know Acno is watching it.

Photokano

I had high hopes for the anime. I really did. To be honest, I'm disappointed. Right now, this anime is on the borderline for me. I'll have to see where it goes. Perhaps I'll update this once I've seen more. I doubt any of you would really enjoy this show.

Maou = devil.
It's been around since the Demon genre. :P

Hataraku Maou-sama! = The Devil is a Part-Timer!
I guess this show can be silly, too....
He works at McDonald's! XD

You thought you'd like to watch Suisei no Gargantia? I was pleasantly surprised by it. You guys would probably like it. The first 15 minutes were kind of typical, but it got good from there. Of all shows how did that one strike you as interesting?

The Bad (Yes, there's more)

Red Data Girl

"At least Photokano has tits!"
- my friend Phil
He's right, at this point that's basically why we are watching that show. Red Data Girl is bad, AND it has nothing going for it.

Like I said, I haven't been watching anything really while I'm in Japan. When I return on the 6th May however...that'll be a different story >:D

All I can tell you from Japan is what the 'big-hype' animes from last season are and that's because there are still posters all over the place. I have seen a few Attack on Titan/Date A Live/RailgunS and Gargantia posters, nothing else though.

May 6th? You'll have six episodes to watch in each show! Glad you're having fun!

Add Hataraku Maou-sama, Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko., and Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san and you basically have the shows of the season.

Another thing about attack on titan is that the source doesn't have enough of a lead for it to be really satisfactory.

But the whole concept of it is really awesome - it's also a 25 ep anime so it'll keep me going next season as well, the only problem with it that I've had so far is the fact that the subs are kinda inaccurate :/

If you go to the anime's page on MAL you can scroll down to the bottom and see what fansub groups are doing it. I recommend [gg] or [EveTaku]. Don't get [HorribleSubs], they rip directly from chrunchyroll. [Commie] is pretty good, too.
