THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Basically we have deep space battle in the first half and then scenes (including an extended chase) on a workshop ship in the second.

For the first half the gigantic space aliens that look like carnivorous flowers and squids look familiar, and I don't find the action particularly exciting, perhaps because there is not so much of fast-changing camera motion or angles and we see a lot of straight laser beams instead of missiles. The formation the spaceships took to enter the wormhole and the pods took to form an enormous energy weapon is interesting though.

For the second half, the low-tech run-down workshop/ship where a bunch of simple living people live also look familiar. And the girl as well as the chase scene somehow gives me some Miyazaki Hayao vibe (don't know why). The setting of the MC not knowing the language spoken by those people in the ship is interesting. I hope more will be explored on that line. At the end the revelation that the star is in fact
is another intriguing information. I wonder if it will become a key idea for the story later on.

And no sure if it is because it is one of those early episodes or because the story is written by Urobuchi, I notice that the character who does the most talking in this episode is the machine! LOL

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

The animation budget (outside of the CG) seems quite high for this series, especially the whole kidnapping scene which was very well animated. Red is also interesting as a main character.

I also very much liked the fact that Red had to have his mech translate the local language for him, I find most anime smooth over the whole language barrier issue and it's refreshing to see one that doesn't.

Also, anyone else reminded of Macross in the first half?

Anyways, good episode.

Bandai released 8,000 copies of a free blu-ray containing the first two episodes. Somehow, the first two episodes were uploaded on the Web a few hours ago.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=570837

No idea when subs will be out but otherwise, the first two episodes were fairly impressive in terms of visuals and the way it was executed.

So it's not an ordinary TV broadcast, it's the BD version of these episodes?!

That's AMAZING!

I like that they made it so he doesn't understand what they are saying and vice versa. Way better than everyone knowing Japanese. It also seems the regular humans aren't speaking Japanese either.

Oh, I finally noticed that Chinese groups sub this already.... (Since March 31)

I couldn't quit understand the settings in the beginning. Human race fight aliens for planets? Oh well, now we are on earth, everything is understandable!

And I can't believe that when it said that he hibernate for 266xxx minutes, I pause the video, punch the number into a calculator, got the conclusion that it was around half a year. Then the shows says it right after when I resumed... Faceplam.

Another Urobuchi, Gen anime eh? I hope that don't mean mass death. Well Psycho-Pass's death count was relatively tame so I guess the director has a lot of say as well.

This looks quite promising! I think it has the third best season premier episode after Hataraku Maou-sama and obviously Shikgeki no Kyojin (which is obviously on a league of its own)

In before sh!t happens because of Urubuchi Gen. Didn't mean in a bad way.

Loved it, fantastic, I expect that it will mostly switch to slice of life of soldier on peaceful planet after this unless he unwittingly has brought war upon the peaceful planet... which we've seen before and knowing the tragic turns of the show runner I fully expect that but I will enjoy the ride!

Up on Crunchy already for subscribers.

I don't deny the possibility that he might have traveled though time, but even if he did, it would be traveled forward in time. Not sure if it was in this episode or episode 2, Red mentioned that according to his understanding, Earth is covered in ice. Then Amy said that Earth was covered in ice, now the ice age has passed, Earth is covered with water.
However, my guess is that he is still on the same timeline. Earth has just changed without Red knowing. And he can't contact his people for whatever reason.

Looks like they put a lot of money into this one. I'm not usually a fan of mech anime, but I'm willing to give this one a shot because the action is better than most and, of course, because Urobuchi hasn't disappointed me yet.

Wow the battle scene in the beginning was intense! So much was going on that I had no clue where to look...I had to watch it again just so I made sure I read the subtitles AND watched what was happening. Those flower things were pretty crazy. And all those laser beams. This definitely was an interesting start, I love how Red kept wondering with Chamber whether or not they were "primitive" or "savage"-like. Also, it must have been somewhat breathtaking to see the ocean for the first time (I assume he has not seen an ocean before from where he came from). The animation is beautiful as well. Definitely looking forward to upcoming episode ^^

One episode in and there's already a massacre of Urobutcher proportions! :P

Kidding aside, this was a great beginning to the show. The techno-babble was pretty heavy during the battle, but it was still amazingly epic. I like the details put into the show, like the language barriers. The characters all have unique personalities, and no one really falls into over-used tropes.
Animation-wise, the show is a fairly competent Production I.G. work. I'm pretty much used to CGI mecha now, so that wasn't really a problem. Hopefully the quality can maintain course for the show's entirety.

Looking forward to next week!

Lasers are good, generally. This battle, however, was pretty underwhelming. So I wouldn't really take it as an indication of all mecha battles, especially considering that there's far more than just beam spam if you look further into the genre.

Absolute eye candy this one is.
The art was beautiful, as was the character designs.

High expectations for this one.

Great Chihara Minori song at the end, which I presume is the OP.

Very good stuf.

Good start. Didn't dislike any character and the setting of this series seems good. Should be promising.

My fav til now is Chamber. He's voiced by Sugita right? Love his/its interactions with Ledo :)

Lol'd at how Ledo spanked Amy's ass and how Chamber translated it XDXDXD

Hey, that's really interesting! I love the idea of Redo finding this new place and probably adjusting to the life here. I think this will be one of Butch's chiller series because so far he's done Madoka, F/Z, and Psycho-Pass and I'm sure he wants to distinguish himself as an author who can do more than tragedy and thriller.

Sugita as an AI of a mech? AOTY

In all seriousness, a better premiere than Majestic Prince. The world Butch Gen introduces us to Ledo and the Hideauze, A parasitic like race that humanity fights against. Nothing too original for a sci fi mecha premise but it's all about execution. Seems the majority of the show though is going to be on the planet Ledo crashes at which separates itself already. The kind of tech the planet Ledo crashes on is more grounded future a la Cowboy Bebop while Ledo is the traditional future we think of tech wise.

The use of colors is really vibrant and dynamic. They really pop off the screen which I like. A really good start and am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses.
