haha good to feel i'm not alone. i havn't watched regular television since the first season of the walking dead aired (2010 i believe) and even then i just got bored with it and picked up the comics instead (which were far better IMO).

Where outside of worcester do you live? Before I moved to Worcester I lived in Berlin (you know the place where Spooky World used to be). Also, I fucking love Cave Story!

I live around Bellingham? One of the smaller towns, though. I knew a lot of people in Franklin, too, around there. Pretty close to the Wrentham outlets. Cave story is incredible; some parts of it are killer, though, in that I had to replay them over and over and still haven't beaten the real final boss. Wish WiiWare had better original games. Cave Story set the bar waaaay too high.

My favorite games are the Mother games. I swear i've beat Earthbound like 30 times in my life! I think the NES and Super nintendo are the best systems! Ive got the Megaman X collection and beat all the games except Megaman 6. I enjoyed Chrono Trigger but not as much as I think I should have though. Anyway I also love Zelda and final fantasy. A good older game I wanna recommend is Sweet home. An old horror Rpg for the Nes! Very awesome stuff!

Concerning Mother, I cried before the end. The eight melodies get me every time, especially this orchestral version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aNUwJbHu_M

Chrono Trigger is a lot better if you go through everyone's sidequests. Lucca, Frog, and Magus were my favorites. I thought they all had great character development, and there were a lot of nuances to each character. I will definitely check out Sweet Home!! I've never even heard of it.

I did beat all the sidequest and it was fun. Sweet home is an excellent NES RPG to play on an emulator. It was never released in america because it was deemed too graphic at the time. If you like the game there is a movie that the game was released with. Both are great but I think the game is considerably better. It is also the game Resident Evil spawned off of.

You can't go wrong with old school games. Final Fantasy 6 (3 in America on Super Nintendo) will always be my favorite.

Also I'm a HUGE fan of comedy. It's the only thing I watch that is real TV. Arrested Development, Castle, and Better Off Ted.

Kurasawa is indeed a very good director. I’ve only seen 7 Samurai so far but it was great. I’m planning to watch Rashomon but I’m having a hard time finding it with German subs.

Zerkalo, if you're a big jazz fan you should check out Emefe! My friends and I love them but they don't have that many fans. You can listen to their CD for free on their website. Anybody who's into jazz/afro will love it, or should at least give them a chance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m actually listening to them right now and like them a lot :).

For all the X4 fans all I have to say is:

@kurselax: watch Serial Experiments Lain, it's definitely one of the best, also maybe Utena. I know that they're both on your PTW but they're kind of icons of the period.

maybe i'll finally get around to lain after i'm finished with darker than black, its been on my ptw forever. utena i just added recently after seeing someone mention it in the forums, don't really know much about the show and havn't heard much about it so i'm not sure what to expect yet. i'll probably just go into it like i did with evangelion; not expecting anything (despite the huge hype train following this show, but for good reason), and ending up loving it.

Also I see we got some gamers here as well, I would play WoW but I kinda had a problem with that game. (failed a few classes because of it if you know what I mean.) anyone still play the old games? as in SNES and sega genesis? I still play those on a pretty regular basis.

I just recently played through Chrono Trigger. Absolutely amazing, my favorite game of all time, I think. I've started playing Mother 3, if anyone is into Earthbound, and it's pretty great. If you like the older games, you should check out Cave Story, it's a game from mid-2000s I think but done in the style of an older game. It started a huge indie game revolution, if memory serves.

Sweet Chrono Trigger is one of my favorites too, I think it would make an amazing anime. I'm also a pretty big Sonic the Hedgehog nerd, but I would have to say that the Mega Man X games are some of my favorites though.
i loove the megaman x games. i played x1 and x2 at least a couple hundred times last summer

Aw, I keep meaning to get around to Final Fantasy 6. I've got such little time to play games right now, I've got to wait until summer to get through most of my backlog.

I'm glad you like comedy! Have you ever seen Trailer Park Boys on Netflix? It's like six seasons of Canadian comedy. I think that the creators of the show literally watched Edd, Ed, and Eddy (that old Cartoon Network show about the three kids in the cul de sac) and made a show about when they were grown up and still white trash. Pretty awesome.

I know both exactly what you are talking about. I haven't seen it all, but I remember watching 1 or 2 seasons of it. That show was pretty funny. I remember Bubbles quite well. I have a lot of hillbillies in my family, I practically live a life like that every year... haha. Glad my uncle forced me down the electronics route.

Yeah, we canceled our cable like a year ago since nobody really watched it and it was a bill we didn't want to pay anymore. But I do still have a TV in my room, I hook my laptop to it and watch anime.

haha don't feel bad i do the same thing. i support the industry when i can but moneys tight and the cash they ask for some of these box sets or volumes is a bit ridiculous. crunchyroll is pretty cheap though if you're not interested in the live action drama then it only costs about $7 USD a month, i'm planning on renewing my subscription as well for the spring season.

I'm never going to get a crunchyroll subscription. Where i watch my anime you can watch it on your ipad. Plus can't you just plug the wire thing into the TV that links onto your computer. Because when we watch movies, that's generally what we do.
Also when you type it into google, their first link does not say 'One Piece'. So that just adds to it.

well, the reason i like crunchyroll is because they always have high quality simulcasts even if they're uploaded a little later than other sites. plus it's just one way i can support the industry and help keep it running without having to spend ridiculous amounts of money for blu rays/sets. e.g: http://www.amazon.com/Puella-Magi-Madoka-Magica-Blu-ray/dp/B00771V6OY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1364596590&sr=8-2&keywords=madoka+magica

I-introductions?! I'm not sure what to say.

Hello! I'm Nosiy2, but i'm usually referred to as Apples (I kinda wanna change my username to something with Apples in it, but I can't think of anything good...yet)

I'm just some seventeen year old from Texas. Personality wise, i'm usually kinda quiet, especially in large groups. The internet i'm a more active, but I still can have a little trouble initiating conversations with others. I'm also extremely stubborn

I started watching anime about a year ago after getting into VNs, though I had prior experiences with it when I was younger (POKEYMANS, NAROOTOE etc). A huge reason why I enjoy anime is because its, well, animation, a medium I feel is extremely under appreciated by many people. I also enjoy movies (and enjoy creating them), though admittedly its been forever since i've actually watched something :s Favorites include Goodfellas, Moon, Reservoir Dogs, Ratatouille and Hot Fuzz.

My preferred genre is probably comedy, but I also love psychological, thriller and mystery; There is no real genre I really dislike except perhaps mecha.

Oh yeah, and I play video games. PC games to be specific, usually on Steam. Link to my account if you wanna send me a friend request or play games or something. I got lots and lots!

ChampagnePink said:

Hnnngg I LOVE Arrested Development! I recently discovered it a couple of months back via netflix and watched pretty much all the seasons in the span of 2 weeks. Never before has a show made me crack up so hard. the execution, the characters, the sub-plots that weave through eachother like a Easter basket of comedy, its all just perfect! Probably my favorite TV show, though I haven't exactly seen many

I would find it hard to select a favourite game but if someone put a gun to my head I would probably say Fallout NV.

Fallout NV is a fantastic game and is up there in my top 10 favorite games. Good taste. Might just play it some tonight...or Napoleonic Wars...or something else.

Also, you have steam? Send me an friend request!

EDIT: sad to see you don't like mecha, seems a lot of people aren't to fond of the genre these days. i guess i just fell in love ever since i watched gundam wing on toonami back in the day. eh, to each his own though :D

I'm not totally fond of Mecha either, however if it's done right and I enjoy it, I will watch almost anything. A LOT of people down talked Robotics;Notes just because it didn't give off the same vibe as Steins;Gate, But I absolutely liked that show. It had a bit of romance, character development, action, sad moments, and robots.
I also liked Gundam Seed and 08 team. I guess the robots and the story/characters just need to appeal to me for that genre.

yeah characters and story play a huge role in the mecha i enjoy, that's why i loved evangelion and eureka seven so much. yeah the giant robots battling were cool as f*** but there was more to it than just that. also glad to hear you liked robotics;notes i've been meaning to watch it for a couple weeks now just been to busy with other series. i heard it was different from steins;gate, but i had a feeling it would be from the moment i read the description here on MAL so that doesn't bother me at all.

Animation has so much potential for storytelling and its very disheartening to see many people to perceive it as "kids stuff" and simply brush it off; Acting as if the fact that its animated somehow lessens the value of it. Maybe not as prevalent as i'm making it out to be, but it still slightly irks to see it happen.

Eh, maybe its going a bit far to say i dislike it seeing as most of the mecha shows I viewed so far i've enjoyed to a degree like NGE or Gurren Lagann....or Megas XLR AKA the greatest show ever.. The genre in itself though just seems rather...unappealing I guess. I probably need to be exposed to more of it to get a deeper appreciation for it.

Wow, looks like I'm pretty late to the thread. I'm glad this club is turning out to be so active, though!

Hi guys, I'm Rena. I'm 20 and live in Finland. I've been an otaku for years, but never really had any friends who shared my interests, so I haven't been able to talk about anime much. So I joined this club to fill a huge void in my life, haha. :P

Since we seem to have several metalheads here, I really enjoy 80's-early 90's thrash (and sometimes death) metal, especially Flotsam and Jetsam, Slayer, Overkill, Sodom, Anthrax and Megadeth. I'm also a big fan of Ronnie James Dio (RIP), particularly in Rainbow and Black Sabbath. My musical tastes are quite diverse though, lately I've mostly listened to classical, punk, indie folk and alternative rock.

Other than that, I'm also into books, western cartoons and comics, video games and I draw and paint quite a lot. I often go on random adventures with my bike. I'm slowly working on a graphic novel, but I'm not very confident and keep redoing things over and over, haha. I'm always up for a conversation about pretty much anything :P See you around!

that may have something to do with it, honestly while i used to love gundam wing i never reeally got into the genre until i saw eureka seven. i don't know what it was, i think it's how quickly the mecha designs caught my attention; i loved the air surfing aspect and the over the top action/explosions (pink explosions ftw?), not to mention the great character development and story that were present as well. also, i agree a lot of people just brush off animation (or mainly anime in this matter) as childs play and don't give it a second thought. when someone i know proclaims they hate anime i always ask them "why?" and the answer i get 9 times out of 10 is "it's for children" or "you can't portray the same kind of emotion as live action with cartoons". i could recommend several series/movies off the top of my head that would prove both of those statements wrong, most at the same time.

ooh cool what kind of comics are you into? i've sort of lost touch with the medium (aside form manga) long ago and just started getting back into it with the walking dead. i watched season 1 for a bit but it didn't really "wow" me so i heard from a friend that it was actually based off of a long-running comic book series and gave it a go, and WOW was i impressed. bought every volume a couple days later and finished them all later that day. also trying to pick up the astonishing x-men omnibus when i get the cash.

Well, I really like stuff by Jeff Smith, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, for example. There are lots of awesome webcomics, too. Would you like me to recommend something? Any preferred genres? I've heard that Walking Dead is amazing, I should probably get around to reading it soon..

If you're looking for a quick graphic novel, I recommend Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol. Just the right amount of creepy, and if you like Neil Gaiman, Brosgol worked on storyboards for Coraline, I think. In any case, they've got the same vibe.

Only the best Poland has to offer. They mastered many different syles of metal from traditional metal, to Thrash metal, to death metal.

Yep, I'm now about halfway through Kawaleria Szatana. Great album, really enjoying the vocals and guitar work. Their drummer also sounds good. Thanks for the recommendation!

Sure, I'm always looking for new reads. This sounds really cool, and the art looks pleasant too. Thanks! :)

That is their most popular album. Yes its great but they have plenty of other albums that are equal imo. Try Epidimie if you like really weird technical metal. It was influenced by Flotsam and Jetsam.

So you live in Finland? Many of my favorite bands are from there. Ensiferum, Korpiklaani, Sonata Arctica, Turisas, Finntroll, you get the idea.

And I must say that going on random adventures on a bike is possibly one of my favorite things to do along watching anime and reading comics and playing video games. I've had some interesting adventures myself. Any good stories to share?

Monty Oum is awesome. I've been a fan of his since Haloid and Dead Fantasy back in 2007.
I'll definitely be checking out RWBY when it's released.

Yeah, I usually check out new bands starting from either their best rated album or their first one, haha. I'll listen to Epidimie if I can find it; it definitely sounds promising!

Yep! I like Korpiklaani too, they're original and pretty hilarious. But out of all Finnish bands I listen to Apocalyptica the most, I love the sound of a cello.

Haha, that's cool. I can't think of a particularly interesting story right now though, I mostly just go explore abandoned buildings or nature, so the most exciting things that happen are running into wild animals or people. :P How about you?

I love checking out abandoned buildings, but I do have one pretty interesting story. This one time I stopped at a gas station to get something to drink and smoke a cig ( it wasn't in a very nice area so keep that in mind) when a homeless lady came and asked me for a cig. We started talking and she asked me if I wanted to play dominos and drink some beer with her and some of her friends. I can't say no to free beer so I went along. We were playing and getting drunk which was pretty fun when all of a sudden two of the guys got into an argument, I don't know what it was about as they were speaking spanish. Next thing I know there was a bum brawl, bottles were broken over heads, blood was everywhere and needless to say I got the hell out of there. That's my only interesting story involving my biking adventures but damn that was one unexpected turn of events.
