| Ep 5. We're movin on up now. Pros: Adversity: This ep provided more development for the GP with the introduction of nanomachines. Considering all the space tech going around, upgrading your front line soldiers is the best idea. The fact that Seina's curse delayed him getting enhanced is a good way to show overarching consequences for the main chara. just like how Amane's inclusion of Seina into the GP made her into a teacher and how Seina's aid in the pirate capture is gonna play out in the later eps. Seina's vs Kiriko: This actually grew Seina character in that his curse shaped a part of his personality. Since things are naturally going to go out of his control, he decides to go the route of going with the flow. He can't stop the pain or problems coming his way so he just lets things go as they do and tries to adapt to it as best he can. The part where he says he'll always have the same luck is pretty fatalistic when you consider how his life has been. It also ties into his wanting to join the GP. It also could give him that "Been there, done that" attitude along the way. However on Kiriko's side of the argument she once more presents the concerned big sis part but her mentioning of the enhancement brought questions. Who were the other enhanced humans? How did she get so high in the GP? Does she have Jurian abilities too so she didn't have to go through enhancement? Nit picks: Seiryu: His appearance on the pirate ship is a bit of a screw up for comedic effect. Shouldn't pirates know about him? Plus how he gets back to the GP is up in the air, Maybe I'm overthinking it but still seems a bit much. Enhancement problems:I was actually expecting Seina's curse to mess up his enhancement and make something happen. That it went by so easily is a bit of a letdown but meh. 5/5. This was a good ep and it moved the story along. Some good comedy and development for the lead chara. Hopefully we can get some space adventures before long. Also since no has done it yet: NANOMACHINES, SON! |

| Kiriko says Seina can't go back to Earth since his enhancements would be detected by a medical workup, but that's kinda bullshit. Presumably Kiriko is enhanced too, so what stopped her from being on Earth? Mihoshi and Kiyone were stationed on Earth as resident officers in Tenchi Universe. this is just a harem anime so I don't have to think too hard about it, but there does seem to be some lapses in logic |
