Hello!
So jazz... thats a big area of music.
I just sink into it year to year. 3 years ago I just know Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and fell in love With Esperansa Spalding, lisned to Frank Sinatra, and I just don't understand Charlie Parker, and hated Coltrain...
2 years ago I started to learn Omnibook (its Bird's book, with his solos) and went into the bebop, but then comes Boplycity. A track from The birth of the Cool album. And I started to listen to Miles's works, and then I loked afrer other trumpet player, and find out Lee Morgen. He played with Art Blakey, and that brings me into hardbop, then comes the free (Charles Mingus and others).... So.... What I wanted to say, that it comes step to step, and now when a person asking me which part of jazz, I canot tell him/her what is jazz either. Maybe my teacher was right, that it died with Coltrain, but I don't think so. |
