Scary. Poor Chise. It's nice seeing people in the army who don't treat her like a weapon though. It's comforting.

Also, I applaud Shuuji for his self-control. I'm sure a normal high school boy wouldn't be able to resist someone trying to seduce them like Fuyumi.

It's been hard to get through each episode. There isn't much romance, and there isn't any fighting. Especially since it's about a girl that's the ultimate weapon. I think I'd like it more if Shuji was more likeable. The problem is that he looks like he's 30, and I really hate his voice. I think Makoto from School days is more likeable than him. I hope they pickup in the romance or the action.

You are crazy.

Another great episode. Looks like this anime is building up to a sex scene.
Really liked seeing the other side. Wonder if they will introduce another 'ultimate weapon' to oppose Chise

The entire course has just been nothing but tragic. No form of fun nor happiness - but pure hopelessness. And this hopelessness really makes Saikano a very mundane anime - unable to bring contrast between what are happy moments and what's not will only make sad simply...sad, and not something dramatically emotional such as in Kanon and Air.

Regarding the war itself, I find things blatantly stupid when the enemy just doesn't come up with some countermeasure against the WMD and just go into battle, losing all their troops without strategic planning. I know this ain't a war-political anime, but at least...make it logical if you want a war setting. And what is with the absence of nukes? When facing a WMD, the only way to counter it is with another WMD! And the unexplained background to the war itself pisses me off to no end.

I'd second to this. Really hope things will better up and moments to brighten up the series as a whole; at least making this anime more interesting and sad moments further emphasised thanks to the dichotomy. However, I do have to praise this episode for picking up on the soldier-part of the story and more tragedy piled up on this anime. I must be a masochist for loving this...

A whole army is coming to get that girl... and still no one knows her secret lol Is this a ghost town or what? They don't care about realism much huh?

Glad they care for her as much, not just see her as an abomination.

A very sad page of this anime is written. The narrative, darker than usual, the best thing about this series lies in the psychology that governs the actions and dialogues, the atmosphere is raw and with few openings to make take a breath, it is always wrapped in a blanket of sadness and sorrow perhaps will be the characters to be so negative in the way they do, but i think that it is precisely the topic to be. I think I will need more time to watch it all, this anime series, it should be looked at a little at a time, too dark to be seen all at once.

The atmosphere since last episode is so gloomy :(
There is no life in this episode, just sadness.

Chise loses her humanity step by step and this caused her to break down. Yet there's still Shuuji that sees her as a normal girl and he's the reason for her to keep living.

Of course she won't die yet, but I'm afraid for the moment when she realizes that Shuuji is spending time with Fuyumi. Btw, it was mentioned that her husband is soldier and I guess it wouldn't be too far stretched to think that we've already seen him in this episode.

@FMmatron Fuyumi-senpai's husband is Tetsu-senpai, her high-school boyfriend Shû often mentions. Hasn't Fuyumi given his name out immédiately?
(it's really funny to read previous watchers who lost their temper over the war or other background elements like this, or didn't see the love story when it's essentially about that, from a male perspective)
Glad you like it ! (what made you pick this up?)

I don't remember her mentioning his name, if yes, then I must have overlooked/heard it, but I still had this Tetsu guy in mind.

The cover caught my attention and because I have a thing for tragic love stories.
