Yeah. You read right.

This is the exact recipe I just typed out from ep. 18 of Fullmetal Alchemist. The scene after Sceska recreated Tim Marcoh's book.

Well, will you get french toast or the Philosopher's Stone?

Tim Marcoh's Breakfast Overnight French Toast

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tbsp light corn syrup

12 slices white bread (trim crusts)

1 1/2 cup whole milk
6 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine sugar, butter, and syrup in a small heavy
saucepan. Stir mixture over medium heat until butter melts and sugar dissolves:
Bring to a boil. Pour into a 9x2 glass baking dish, tilt the dish to coat the bottom. Let cool.

Place 6 slices of bread on top of the butter and sugar mixture. Mix milk, eggs, vanilla and salt; Pour 1/2 the milk and egg mixture over the top of bread and then layer the next 6 pieces and pour the rest of the mixture over the top. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered until bread is puffy and golden brown, about 40 to 50 minutes or until knife comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes and serve upside down.

*french toast should sit up like a custard and should not jiggle

Notes:

******CUSTARD******
"Milk and eggs, bitch." (Scott Pilgrim. The part with the Vegan Police)

But yeah, custard is a mix of milk or cream with egg yolk. When cooking it, it has to be at a low temperature, starting at 70F, in a double boiler. Keep stiring it to prevent from cooking it, as curdling will happen. Then enjoy some fried eggs basically... After cooking it little by little, it starts to thicken. This is also the egg yolk's purpose; A thickener. Well, use another thickener, such as starch, and it becomes a 'cream' for pastry. Use gelatin and you got a gelato. (what was mentioned in the movie above)

*****BREAD*****
Well, again from the Spike Spencer panel, obviously a different tasting bread will affect your taste. Try some other breads out (He actually suggested Hawaiian bread for his French Toast.)
