Hi there, thank you for taking the time to look at the Stargate Fan Club. This thread is the informational thread on the Stargate Franchise. Wheather your a curious person wanting to watch a good Sci-Fi show or a fan wanting to know some information that you have questions on. Now to avoid my post being amazingly huge, the information in which I'm going to give you are on the series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atalntis. If you have questions on these, or anything else refering to Stargate, please fill free to ask, If I can't answer it (which is almost never) then some one will.

Stargate SG-1
Stargate SG-1 (often abbreviated as SG-1) is an American-Canadian science fiction television series, part of the Stargate franchise. Its story begins one year after the events of the 1994 science fiction film Stargate. In the Stargate science fiction universe, a network of ancient alien devices called Stargates connect the far reaches of the Milky Way, Pegasus and Ori galaxies, opening the door for near-instantaneous interstellar travel. Stargate SG-1 chronicles the exploits of SG-1, the "flagship team" of at least 25 teams who explore the galaxy and defend Earth against alien threats such as the Goa'uld, Replicators and later the Ori.
Stargate SG-1 follows and expands upon the Egyptian mythologies presented in Stargate. In the Stargate universe, the human race on Earth, known to the rest of the galaxy as the Tau'ri, were descendants of the Ancients, a race of highly evolved beings. Earth was believed to be the first planet where humans existed in this galaxy. Humans were enslaved and transported to other habitable planets by the Goa'uld such as Ra and Apophis. For millennia, the Goa'uld harvested humanity, heavily influencing and spreading human cultures. As a result, Earth cultures such as those of the Aztecs, Mayans, Britons, the Norse, Mongols, Greeks and Romans are found throughout the known habitable planets of the galaxy. Many well-known mythical locations such as Avalon, Camelot and Atlantis are found, or have at one time existed.

The series explores both long story arcs (discussed below) as well as more contained one-episode stories. Often these shorter stories will detail SG-1's exploits on a previously unexplored planet.

Presently, the Earth Stargate (found at a dig site near Giza in 1928) is housed in a top-secret U.S. military base known as the SGC (Stargate Command) underneath Cheyenne Mountain. Col. Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), Cpt. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Teal'c (Christopher Judge) compose the original SG-1 team. Along with 24 other SG teams, they venture to distant planets exploring the galaxy and searching for defenses from the Goa'uld, in the forms of technology and alliances with friendly advanced races. Later in the series, some members of SG-1 leave such as Dr. Janet Frasier (Teryl Rothery), Major General George Hammond (Don S. Davis) and new members join, such as Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemec), Major General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges), Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) and Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black).

The parasitic Goa'uld use advanced technology to cast themselves as gods and are bent on galactic conquest and eternal worship. Throughout the first eight seasons, the Goa'uld are the primary antagonists. They are a race of highly intelligent, ruthless snake-like alien parasites capable of invading and controlling the bodies of other species, including humans. The original arch-enemy from this race is the System Lord Apophis (Peter Williams). Other System Lords, such as Ba'al and Anubis, play pivotal roles in the later seasons. In the third season, the Replicators are also introduced. The Replicators are mechanical bugs that feed on metals to "replicate" and create more bugs. Enemy of the Asgard, they are the main reason why the Asgard cannot eliminate the Goa'uld threat. In the ninth season a new villain emerges, the Ori. The Ori are advanced beings with unfathomable technology from another galaxy, also bent on galactic conquest and eternal worship. The introduction of the Ori accompanies a departure from the primary focus on Egyptian mythology into an exploration of the Arthurian mythology surrounding the Ori, their followers, and their enemies — the Ancients. Both Ancients and Ori are Ascended Beings, meaning that they have 'ascended' to a higher plane of existence, giving them extraordinary powers.

Stargate Atlantis
Stargate Atlantis (often abbreviated as SGA) is a American-Canadian science fiction television program, part of the Stargate franchise owned by MGM. Developed by longtime SG-1 producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, it is a spin-off from the television series Stargate SG-1. It is filmed and produced in Canada.

Stargate Atlantis follows the adventures of a human expedition to the lost city of Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. The Stargate has brought humanity into contact with other cultures, including new and powerful enemies: the Wraith, the Genii, and later the Asurans, all while trying to uncover the secrets the Ancients left behind.

Stargate Atlantis is set in the city of Atlantis, on a planet called "Lantea" in the Pegasus galaxy, built millions of years ago by the most advanced race of the Stargate universe: the Ancients. Five to ten million years ago, due to a plague in the Milky Way Galaxy, they were forced to flee to a planet in the Pegasus Galaxy and there they seeded life on hundreds of worlds as they had done in the Milky Way. After encountering a powerful enemy known as the Wraith and going to war with them for more than one hundred years, the Ancients ultimately lost and were forced to submerge their city into the ocean (in order to hide from the Wraith), which, in the Stargate universe, is the source of the Greek myth of the Lost City of Atlantis.

The city of Atlantis hosts much of the action in the series and is the source of much of the technology which the characters employ. While trying to uncover the secrets the city still holds from her new human inhabitants, the Atlantis expedition also use the Stargate to explore the Pegasus galaxy, looking for energy sources and other technology that the Ancients may have left behind and that may help them defeat the Wraith.

The events of Stargate Atlantis follow the cliffhanger Stargate SG-1 seventh season finale "Lost City", where SG-1 found an outpost made by the race known as the Ancients in Antarctica. After the events of Stargate SG-1 season eight premiere "New Order", the Stargate Command sends an international team to investigate the outpost. Soon, Dr. Jackson discovers the location of the greatest city created by the Ancients, Atlantis.

As of Season 4, the city of Atlantis has been moved by the expedition to a new planet, currently designated M35-117, to avoid destruction at the hands of the Asurans.
