Before I forget A) I saw this from a recording so no online it was better. B) This is what needs to be said of Ranka x Alto, heck yeah! At least something meaningful but I would prefer a kiss of course. Ranka ended the movie and Sheryl was incapacitated! What do you say to that? HA! Ranka in thee end succumbed far less than Sheryl but I am saying this in mild humor. Point is Ranka finished it off in thee end and yeah Alto is somewhere in another Universe? Galaxy? Dimension? Who knows but one thing for sure if he is not then he is dead with that Vajra. So he is not dead but in another part of the Universe. The only fact I know is the DNA bullshit you came up in your delusions is just that, bullshit. It's also only a bad choice to YOU, as your rabid-Ranka-glasses are held too tight on your face, and you want to see nothing else but your own preference, while doing anything and everything to denounce and demonize Sheryl. Geez. Is it that hard to accept Alto's choice? This is why I respect the Japanese fandom of MacF because they make better sports out of something that's FICTIONAL. The Alto/Ranka fans over at Pixiv? Rather than waste time making walls of rage and sourgraping, they accept it for what it is without bashing Alto or Sheryl. They're not devastated that Ranka lost, instead they make fanarts of their preferred couple without saying anything. They do not try to claim that Alto loves Ranka, they just enjoy what they like without trying to make a propaganda out of it. Hell, Ranka is the biggest sport of all! She actually wishes that Alto and Sheryl will reunite at the end of the movie. Oh and Sheryl does wake up in the end (the hint is the credits song duet with Ranka). |

At least something meaningful but I would prefer a kiss of course. What Alto said to Sheryl is officially canon. It's in the story part of the movie book. You can live in perpetual denial. As for that scene. You mean you wish it was like this? Alto had a similar scene with Sheryl in the Tv series, only that he sought her out before the last battle in her own room (while Ranka seeks him out in this one which shows who is interested on who). As far as he knew, Ranka was alive (unlike Sheryl who he thought she died), and Sheryl didn't want to hear his confession (we have confirmation from the scriptwriter he was trying to express his feelings to her). She kissed him, they kiss and embrace. She pulls away while he protests a lot and she has to shush him. If anything, this scene proves that Alto cherishes Ranka as a good friend. Not even when Sheryl is out the picture, Alto seems to consider Ranka as a lover. While if the situation involved Sheryl (like it did in the TV series) it would be romantic. He's wearing her earring as pendant as Klan wore Michael's glasses after he died in the TV series. In the novel adaptation, he and Cathy had a heart to heart about losing the man/woman they loved (she thought Ozma was dead too). This doesn't mean Ranka is lesser than Sheryl. Both are incredible heroines. Alto just sees one in a platonic sense and another in a romantic sense. Ranka is immensely strong in the second movie. She didn't only lose her biological brother, but her best friend and crush was missing and her other best friend and mentor/idol is in a coma. She gave up on Alto. She wishes she could have her best friends back. She'll find love like Mao Nome did. I just hope the three of them would be reunited together. |

Xardie: I wish they were over and we enjoy the fantastic music, battle scenes and relationships (the platonic ones and the romantic ones) without any of this unpleasantness. I hate when people put down platonic love as inferior. Yumekichi11 said: Oh great so we are going in the mistress and wife dilemma where Ranka can be considered a relief thing and Sheryl is more of a lover bonding. Well that is probably lamely explained but I refuse such. No. She's not relief. He was comforting her as a friend would. She's his best friend in the movie and a friend in the TV series (Michael is his best friend in this one). He would not push her around, but he would not kiss her or make love like he did with Sheryl. It was a tender moment between two friends, one of which had romantic feelings for the other. Yumekichi11 said: Did he not get something from Ranka too to keep? memory fuzz here from TV series. No, he didn't. Of course she waits for him: Alto is her best friend. Sheryl is her other best friend (Nanase is no longer occupying this place). She's waiting and wishing for the two of them. She's lonely without Alto and Sheryl. Just because one sides (or two) of the triangle got friendzoned doesn't mean they are lesser than the other in the strength of bonds. They are simply different. Sheryl and Alto love Ranka dearly as their best friend. The three of them would risk their lives for each other whether or not they will settle down and marry one day. She's just 16 years old. She is smart enough to move on. A part of her will always love him in an ideal, first crush way. She will grow into a beautiful lady who would find the man or woman of her life who would love her back. |

Sadly it will probably not happen. We just Ranka to be happy! GOD! Being like you say it is sometimes is just not enough for what Ranka went through and all to not be with Alto. Ranka's a great friend and a cute sister figure, but she's not girlfriend material yet. There is someone else there for her. Alto didn't pay her enough attention, like he did to Sheryl. About the songs: Ranka sings a lot of Sheryl's songs (and Minmay's songs), including the one she was discovered with (What 'bout my Star?). It's only fair Sheryl gets some of her songs too. In particular when the song isn't Ranka's, but discovered by Mao Nome (Sheryl's grandmother) and sung by Ranka's mother. The end song is written by Sheryl with her own blood (The Wings of Goodbye), anyway. Although I think Sheryl's singing in Aimo is as bad as Ranka's singing Diamond Crevasse. It doesn't fit them at all. Can someone tell me what's this 'Sheryl Manga'? |

I loved the Macross 7's Fire Bomber parody (Mikhail as Nekki Basara and Klan as Jenius Mylene) and the cross-dressing "trap" Alto from the Alcatraz prison-break scene! Anyway, it felt like there was a big hole left in my mind after watching the second movie. I can't call it a disappointment, but perhaps, I'm wishing for a third one to come out... |

I didn't like the ending so much, but it was an EPIC Movie, although I watched it without subs and in japanes audio. I loved the FINAL ATTACK song and when Sheryl and Ranka sung Sayonara no Tsubasa (L) For God's sake... I admit shipping is a serious business, but, let it be. The TV series ending was inconclusive, to a new beginning. And, considering Macross Frontier was made for the 25th anniversary of Macross Fanchise, of course they would do something alternative. In the TV series Alto NEVER decided his feeling for either Ranka or Sheryl, He considered them as his wings, but nothing else. He didn't say anything else. He was led by both songstress all the time. In the movie is OBVIOUSLY that He rejected Ranka at the end, although he was consoling Ranka for everything that happened. He accepted Sheryl more than just a friend (I admit here: Poor Ranka -Sobs- She changed in this movie and got more powerful), because She gave him more strength, although Ranka did the same to Alto and Sheryl (somehow when Sheryl was in jail). BUT, I'm really angry at Alto. I mean, why to 'fight' over a guy like him? I don't usually ship yuri or shoujo-ai, even if I like it, but I think, If I were Ranka, I would fell in love with Sheryl (she's really strong and have courage, and think in everyone, specially Alto and Ranka -She saved Ranka-), and Sheryl with Ranka (she's kind, sweet and strong, and think in the others -She saved Sheryl at the end-); both of the girls have blends and shades than Alto, in my opinion, don't have. They complete each other, and I respect if you say "Only as friend", because it was suppose to be that way all the time. Both are courages, fighters; Alto may be from the SMS and a Pilot and that's "OMG! COURAGEOUS!", but I just find him really silly (Although, at the end he did the awesomeness). Ranka and Sheryl have a genuine bond there, they NEED each other (Here, I'm not referring as romantic way, although I wanted it). I don't tolerate everything about Sheryl, the same goes for Ranka, but they bled together so well. As someone in this topic referred "The strongest bond in Frontier is the girls' bond", THAT'S TRUTH and TRUE; TRUE OVER ALL. I remember, from the TV series, that Ranka said "Because you were there, Sheryl-san". What Sheryl can not do alone, Ranka does it for her and help her, and vice-versa. What I think about Sheryl's love is like lava, it seems she put herself between Alto, to try to catch him in the TV series; Ranka's love is more innocent and pure, in the TV series she does everything to catch Alto but she doesn't have the complete courage to do it, to fight against Sheryl until the end of the TV series. In the movie, Sheryl's love have more substance, is lava too, but you can say: OMG! OTP (AltoxSheryl), because of the scenes. Ranka's love is awesome too, have substance too and you can say: Well, Alto should accept her and deserves her, but Alto wanted Sheryl's strength, that's all. I feel sorry for Ranka... I love both girls. (L) Sheryl was in a coma, but with the transfusion she manage to survive, on the credits you can watch her singing "Hoshi kirari" on her bed, the last words of Ranka's Hoshi Kira. I couldn't see Alto doing folding or whatever you call it, but I assume that he is alive because; at least all of them deserve a happy ending. It's a shame that they won't do a continuation. I don't ship triangles. They are better off without Alto (I hope he's still alive, although). Sheryl and Ranka need to be together, that's the fact for me... As friends, lovers, whatever, I think they complete each other. That's my long opinion, and please, DON'T troll me. RESPECT ME, 'cuz I RESPECTED ALL OF YOU. Thank you (L) |

There is certainly subtext, if you want to see something romantic (and all the merchandising pushing). Ranka blushes and daydreams about Sheryl in the beginning of the first movie, while Sheryl seems open with her orientation with the bisexuality of her concerts. The only man both take interest is one who looks like a beautiful woman (Sheryl seemed to have been taken by him when he was playing the role of Princess Sakura, no less) and has gender issues. Alto's a step close to transsexual when he debates his own identity. There is a possibility their friendship grows into romantic without Alto. Or remain stronger than ever. It's not outside of the realm of the possibility in this Macross series. The song of the end, according to May'n, is about Sheryl's relationships, in particular her relationship with Ranka. Google the lyrics. It's not a platonic friendly song. |

Ranka was blushing -Well, she blushes a lot-, but I found it quite strange). I think the triangle and the bond between Ranka and Sheryl is really complex and strong. Alto, well, yeah... he has issues, but I really don't care about he as much I care about Luca or Michael, and even Bobby! I think his issues obscures him. And well, yeah, both Sheryl and Ranka has such a crush on Alto based, at the beginning, with appearances. Well, you have a point. I didn't knew Sayonara no Tsubasa where because of Sheryl's relationships, including Ranka; of course, it's obvious that it's a triangle song, connecting the trhee of them in many ways. |

This is one of them times where the movie fails horribly in comparison to the TV series. The biggest qualm I had was..re-writing characters back to life.. Sure its nice and sweet and all fairy tale like, but... mostly stupid. Ive been a fan of the entire Macross series since it began.. But this movie was horrible... (I never thought I'd ever dislike a Macross-anything, but it happened.) I still cannot believe he picked Sheryl the whore over Ranka the elegant. |

I really quite enjoyed the movie. It had a much more impactful and satisfying ending with the protagonist being MIA and a few lovable supporting characters not meeting their otherwise sad doom, unlike the first Macross Frontier anime series alternate version. Of course I wasn't including all the really close-calls for in this movie: Sheryl, Luca, Klan, and Mikhail and all I have to say for Leon Mishima is: !@#$ Yeah head-shot! Although I still wonder why they changed Ranka's green frog phone Ketai-kun to orange... If they're going to make another Macross anime, which I totally hope they are, I do kind of want them to bring back a mention of Alto's future...like what they did for Mao Nome in Macross Frontier; by introducing Sheryl Nome |

I don't know how long I have been waiting for this movie. I remember watching some show that Nutbladder subbed and they had a PV of this in the episode that churned me into watching the whole Macross universe. I was greatly entertained as I watched every single little thing in 6 days and now it all has ended. I wish I could give this a 10 but I can't. There was way too many of Ranka songs and I can't love her cutesy songs as much as Sheryl's mature, heart-stirring voice. The opening killed me when the bridal scene was just one of Sheryl's songs; for the whole movie, I thought that Alto would not choose her but I was quite satisfied with the ending. Brera was still hot in the movie. I just sorta wished that they would have used the cliche white space background and have Alto and Sheryl as kids once again holding hands like a dream in the end. |

I really liked this movie and it sucks that Alto and Ranka can't get it together :( Also, the best thing in this movie was when Macross Quarter started surfing on a huge piece of scrap :) |

It was even worse than the second part of the series and the characters were even more moronic (seriously, Alto must be the worst main character ever and Sheryl/Ranka are not really interesting female characters either). Plus Kawamori's direction is still as awful as ever. A movie to forget once again... |

Enjoyed the movie immensely. While far from perfect, it delivers solidly on the entertainment level, has great animation, cool music and epic battles. While it might be dissapointing that Alto had to disappear like that, well Kawamori tends to like these fairly vague endings. At least there was a resolution of sorts. This movie was pure gold for Macross fans in terms of service. From Isamu's cameo at the end battle (that's the protagonist from Macross Plus for those who haven't seen it), to SMS performing as Fire Bomber at the Alcatraz concert, to the scene with Ranka and Alto in Macross Quarter (almost identical visuals as a scene between Minmei and Kikaru in Super Dimension Fortress Macross), there's just something for everyone. I think this is the last we see from Frontier. What a fantastic 4 years that's been. Next year they'll hopefully move on to the 30th anniversary project. |

What a BS ending.... I HOPE, I REALLY HOPE!, that we can have like a spin off series just based on Ranka.. where Ranka can have a happy ending with some new guy character to love, thats 10000x better than Alto ! ;___; |

There is a spin off Manga focused on Sheryl where Ranka seemly ends up with Brera if you don't mind siscon. Kawamori moved on with the 30th Anniversary Project. Sheryl end was called out since the tv series if you pay half attention to the merchandising, their commentary and interviews. Ranka is a star in this movie. Who cares if Alto didn't see her as more than his best friend? |

I think you mean AKB48 project :P We'll probably get OVA/pilot episode in October 2012 for next series while the series proper comes in 2013, just like the deal with Macross Frontier was in 2007-2008... but for now he's probably focused on Aquarion EVOl and AKB48 mostly. Hah LoveDriftsAway said: Who cares if Alto didn't see her as more than his best friend? Well, if you like her it's not nice to see poor girl heartbroken. Still, kind of silly to hate film for a reason like that. |

Once again, the second movie had great visuals. But I was hoping for more Sheryl stage screentime since she is my favorite-- But ok, the first movie and the TV series did had plenty of Sheryl stage screentime. I didn't expect to see that much of a weak Sheryl but I liked how they portrayed her character. Even if she was an idol, it didn't mean that she was happy. And Ranka... She seemed to care more about Sheryl rather Alto. And even when Alto said that he couldn't return Ranka's feelings but instead he loved Sheryl, she was like she didn't care. Anyway, I always thought that Alto loved Ranka like a sister. That ending though. I was hoping to see more. Only the credits showed that Sheryl woke up indeed and probably Alto is somewhere alive. |

Had to refresh my memory of part one of the movie and watch it again, and it was worth it. Wanted more of a cliche ending also. I just knew Alto and Sheryl would end together from watching the series, though, physically they didn't by the end of the movie xD I laughed when they added a flashback of Alto and Sheryl meeting before, that just decided that Alto would choose Sheryl :) Really wanted a scene of Alto and Sheryl together after they confessed to one another, guess that will remain as a fantasy . I'd give this a 10 if I didn't watch the TV series, but since I did, I have to give this a 9. ;sigh; I want more... if only.. lol.. |

Watching this reminded me why I love this series and why I love Ranka and Sheryl. Kind of a sad ending but it was pretty good imo. Alto went out like a boss. |

Fuck all the faked deaths, the one achille's heel of the movie, and it's an extremely annoying one. It's even worse than the shit they pull in some Gundam shows. Otherwise a good movie, even if a little way too melodramatic at times (I didn't get this feeling from the first one). |

Yes indeed Alto survives, and Sheryl wakes up because her earring shines and her lips move (humming the song from ranka) BUT how does alto make it back to the new earth if he does not have the coordinates to tele back, and he has no ship> like wtf? big hole here |

OK OK I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING SIDE STORY SPINOFF 2012 MACROSS FRONTIER alto comes back with the vajara because he has communicated with the vajara successfully, and they are now peaceful with the humans, thus the humans and vajara co-exist. Alto comes back and marries Sheryl, Ranka moves on just like MinMAY from the original macross. *( funny if alto comes back and finds sheryl with another man because she moves on ) |
