Whew, 3 episodes deep and if you're still watching this series at this point, it's probably for one of two reasons. Perhaps both.

1- Morbid curiosity.

2 - You really enjoy gratuitous violence and hope to see some more cool kills like the first episode and you don't mind seeing a few titties in the process.

It's hard to put to words the amount of nonsense in this series, let alone this episode, though nothing quite tops the hiding of grenades in Mad Bulls crotch in episode 2. Each one tied to his pubic hair. Wow.

There are some female assassins which provided a few ultra violent scenes and some decent action. There leader comes on the scene later riding on top of a tank with a rocket launcher. Gangsters with guns provide some nice shoot outs. Lots of people get shot to hell. Lots of blood but no exploding heads like the first episode.

All of the female characters lose their clothes in all the action. Tattered ragged tops to show nice bouncing breasts. Good cheeky fun until it turns dark with rapey nonsense.

Rape ain't funny. When our "hero" Mad Bull blatantly tries to rape the newly introduced news reporter in the first moments of their first date at the end of this episode and everyone kind of just shrugs and laughs it off. Gross dude. The creators of this anime have a very strange view on things to say the least.

I think the best part of this series so far, is the end credits. Sad jazz music plays while you get to enjoy hand drawn still backgrounds of New York in the 80's. Oddly very enjoyable.

The beginning was kind of meh but it got better as it went on. Exotic Chinese assassins are going your way~ The atrociously hilarious Chingrish dubbing was so funny that it had me rorring in mai glave.

It's ridiculous that they lose their clothes so often but it's to be expected from a studio that produced hentai a while back. I'm not saying that I don't like it because their bods looked pretty good because they're experienced in drawing H.

Sleepy blew it with that weird aggressive onslaught. He should've showed Jacky his grenade jockstrap first instead :3

The "attempted rape" in the manga was actually Sleepy purposefully making the girl hate him so he can give up on trying to win her over. But either the anime staff got it wrong or the translation fucked up.

The translation I watched made it so that he was trying to make the girl hate him. He didn't intend to rape her. He just wanted to scare her off. Still, seems like it would've been better just to tell her to fuck off rather than traumatizing the poor lady.

That's exactly what the scene implied, he could've done a better job in convincing her, tho.

I have to wonder if that 'attempted rape' scene went over well in 1987 Japan?

They wrote it in a hilariously un-PC way- All the titilation of a genuine attempted rape, but its a-OK, in fact its actually showing what a great, caring, moral guy the rapist is, because he's trying to *protect* the woman who ran off half naked because she genuinely believed she was about to be raped by a cop. Its like the kind of thing you'd see deliberately put in some shitty web comic to "trigger the sjws", except here it seems like they wrote it out of sincere cluelessness, rather than deliberately being assholes.

The more anime i see, the more i realise that people who bitch about "omg! Western culture is so misgynist and racist and intolerant!!" are morons (not that i didnt already know that tbh).

Well, i like the series so far. (Even though i don't like the sex scenes)

Am i the only one who felt bad about those chinese suicide squad? I almost cried when they started telling each other farewell.

Either way i don't find this anime to be as bad as people say. I've seen the worst. Abashiri Family, Kekko Kamen... both of those are Go Nagai Works.
Seriously, if you think that Mad Bull 34 is so bad, then go watch Abashiri Family.

I also don't get the complaints about animation. Characters are detailed enough, the movements are fluid enough. It looks like one of best japanese animations for 1991.

I wonder how many people will notice ... that crazy reporter put so many innocent people in the morgue.

From decapitated police officers, stabbed police officers, police officers blown up with weapons of war... innocent civillians shot to death with a machine gun or injured (if they survived) while eating their food in a restuarant, her own news company's workers injured and put into hospital.

All directly because ... as the boss at the news company said: You have lost sight of the fact that we work to report the news not be the story of the news ourselves.

By the time we're 25% of the way into the ova it is clear that this goes way beyond just one perpetrator: The people at the top of the Police, The City, The Courts, Are All Extremely Corrupt. DNA Evidence is just dissapearing from Police Evidence Rooms. Okay. So she got one creep (on camera). The cost in lives paid to get that one creep is even worse than the total number of lives the creep ruined.

The cost / benefit analysis or as some would say risk / rewrd evaluation of the crazy reporter's strategy had every one from Mad Bull to Perrin to Daizoboro to honest level headed reporters at the News Company trying to talk her out of the path she chose.

Seriously every single one around her was saved by Plot Armour.

I gave the ep a 5 / 5. The Character Writing Was Strong. The English Dub was Great. Ha ha. Jackie's VA did a 10/10 job Her Intensity. The animation's portrayal of her intensity, The sound. The art. It all worked together.

I can see how if you're a person who takes things in a very literal way you would say, oh the violence, oh the inhumanity, etc. Yeah. You probably would say the same about the 70's anti-corruption, crime, protest against exploitation, detective and cop movies and cop shows this work is inspired by.

This film (It pretty much is a film) has parallels in Real Life. If you have a wide range of knowledge in Human history accross the planet in the last few hundred years.... Even recent history... there was a Reporter named Jamal who was affiliated with a New York (just like in the anime) News Company whose killer most people in the world know. But who of course... (just like in the anime) can't be touched.  The cost of bringing that guy to justice is unfortunately too great. So the world lives with an "acceptable" evil.

This isn't a new thing. If you're a student of history... you'll know just like the people who published the manga and developed it for tv as an ova ... beyond the surface level of violence ... this is a social commentary.

This anime made me think. It made me consider things. Laugh. Wince. Grimace. Fear for Jackie's safety and for the officers and people and for those people with nothing to live for who were clearly caught up in a cult (and a life of crime). It's a shame none of them could have been caught and taken out of that cult before they drank the Kool Aid / completely gave up on life.

Jackie was right though (especially in today's world) Cameras are your protection (well they can be). Following a stranger down a dark alley.... uh oh. Not A Very Safe Thing To Do. Especially when you let people sneak up behind you.  Perrin on the other hand. Saved her friend's life at the hospital thanks to her superb situational awareness.

unbelievably racist and insane. Maybe that's what the show went for, but it surely did not age well.
