Ryuusei no Gemini or Specials?

I just finished season 1, and I'm wondering which one should I watch next? Second season or specials??

I've been told that season 2 is a lot better if you finish the specials first.

Specials explain a lot of important things. Otherwise you'll just be confused at the twists.
