I think it's too soon to say which will be better since other Rebuild movies will be out, but which do you like better as of now?

I really can't choose between the two, to say the least.

Rebuild 2.0's ending's rather intriguing. I'm looking forward to see what happens in 3.0 and 4.0.... then I'll finally deside x)
But as of now, NGE and EoE are my favourite ones. And I have a dim feeling, it will always be so.
I can see beauty where others see ugliness. That either makes me an artist or a person of very poor taste (с)

So far I've yet to see anything in the Rebuild films comparable to the level of unmitigated quality present in EoE - though that's an admittedly high standard, since EoE is one of my favorite films ever made. I am intrigued by the number of shoutouts, though, particularly in 2.0. Clearly Anno, Tsurumaki and co. haven't forgotten that it's their magnum opus, and the most pivotal chapter in the original saga.

Honestly, a really hard pick. I think I will have to say originals, but the movies come in real close. Maybe after 3 and 4 I might change my mind and think Rebuild is actually better, but I doubt that it will be that great. So I'll put my bets on original with a really small difference. :)

I enjoyed the first two rebuild movies, but so far I'll give the nod to the series + EOE. Like gatotsu911 it's hard to believe they can to EOE and I doubt that is even their intention to be honest.

So far the series+EoE is better. But there's still room to improve for the rebuild movies.

I like the Rebuild so far, but my favorite is still classic NGE + EoE.

I prefer the series/EoE, rebuild until now (2nd Movie) lacks a lot in story and psychological elements because of its exaggerated action. Besides to me switch Touji with Asuka in the doomed eva was one of worst recycling scenes I ever watched imo, in fact I was expecting that Touji would have a greater role in rebuild (with his dark eva) which he hadn't in the original series.

I'm not saying that rebuild is the worst show ever, it really depends what are you looking for:
highly action with one of the best animations ever, likable characters, less focus in character development & psychology at least until r2 and an almost opened story from the beginning
or
enough action with great animation (for its time), highly psychological, depressed characters with great development, and close story which opens slowly with the time.

I think Rebuild would have to be Earth-shatteringly amazing to beat out the original series (w/ EoE). The series is over 13 hours worth of characterisation and plot development, plus another 2 hours for the ending in EoE. And all 15 hours of that was excellent! A 4-part movie series just cannot match that in terms of numbers, but I'm sure Anno has some surprises in store with 3.0 and 4.0 so I'll reserve judgement for now!

Well, that's an easy question i suppose. NGE series + EoEvangelion are deeper and more mindfuck than the "Rebuild", moreover usually the prototype/original work is the best. But the most important reason that we love more the series + EoE is that this is what made us ULTRA-EVA-GEEKS. I mean, Rebuild ain't bad, i like it as well, but...

ps: i think it is not fair to judge "Rebuild" right now. We are halfway, just 2/4 movies so far.

Really not too sure, I don't think that I'd be able to properly answer until the next two films are out, however: I prefer the first part of the original over Rebuild 1.0 storywise etc, but greatly prefer Rebuild 2.0 over the 2nd part of the original.

I couldn't get into EoE, but i've only seen it once so i could probably do with re-watching that.

I prefer NGE & EoE over the Rebuild movies TBH, the character and story development are much better in the former. Sure the latter has the newer, flashier animation quality, I don't understand why Asuka's surname was changed and changing the role of the doomed pilot of EVA-03 from Touji to Asuka in the 2.0 movie, that scene in the original series with Touji was much more of an emotional impact for me.

I will admit, I've been rather disappointed by the Rebuild. While I approve of the idea of Anno getting some sort of professional help and overcoming depression, I feel like the Rebuild has really toned down the series to an almost Gurren Lagenn level of shallowness. I loved NGE not for the robots or for the fighting, but for Shinji not running away, Rei defying Gendo at the last, Asuka's glorious orgy of self-destruction, and Gendo's horrifying quest for redemption. While I feel horrible for saying this, I think that NGE was better when the characters were more broken and inverted. NGE without the Hedgehog's Dilemma is like watching a Code Geass where Suzaku isn't absolutely asinine! It just isn't the same!

At the same time, I really loved how Ramiel was animated. That was absolutely amazing.
You say tomato, I say horrible murder by Gibbering Horrors That Should Not Be. Simple pronunciation difference, really.

I would say that since the end of 2.0 and for the whole of 3.0 the direction has totally changed. It almost feels like a re telling and to be honest I like that because in my opinion the series already had a caped off ending especially with end of evangelion. Looking forward to seeing 4.0.

Both are great for their own reasons, but I'm going with the original.

Most of the symbolism and downright shocking nature that was present in the original is simply gone in the rebuild; the characters aren't the same and the plot is a lot less shocking. Not to mention how much influence the original had on the anime industry as a whole, which should count for something.

Both are definitely worth a watch though.

Series + EoE. As much as I'd like to take this opportunity to complain about how terrible the rebuild films are, I will admit that the rebuild movies aren't actually that bad. They're just extremely disappointing in comparison to the series. To sum up why I think this without going into a rant about the rebuild films: The original is a deep deconstruction of the mecha genre and anime has a whole. It has a great story line and lots of character development. Rebuild is a generic mecha anime made to cash in on the fame of the series (not that there's anything wrong with generic mecha anime. It's just not as good as Evangelion).

There's just no comparison. NGE+EoE is way ahead of the Rebuild series.
The character development in rebuild is just shit. It is totally different from NGE.
Furthermore, Asuka from the rebuilds was so depressing to watch plus the fact that she entered the eva 03 entry plug simply pissed me off.
I personally feel that the Rebuild series is for those who did not like the original series.

For me it´s clearly th original series + EoE. There were more deeper (and therefore more mindfuck) and the dynamics between the characters were much better than in the rebuilds.

And I´ve to admit I missed those freezed images from NGE :D

Had I responded to this before seeing Rebuild 3.0 I would have answered the movies.

But having seen Rebuild 3, I have to answer NGE+EoE. The third movie seems to have taken things so far off course that it would better stand on its own rather than a continuation. Like watching the first Iron Man movie then skipping all the other Marvel movies to watch Captain America: Civil War, or Star Wars Phantom Menace and jumping to Force Awakens. There is literally so much unused and wasted potential between the second and third movies it's disheartening.

Maybe this is not correct answer but manga is the best. This series need a new tv anime/movies/ovas (format is not so important) that fully follow manga. I hope one day we can see.

Anime is original story and it is good esp EoE. EoE is really good movie. When i first watch i did not understand but second time i really enjoyed. Really a intense and impressive. Thirds impact scene, live scenes, Asuka's fight to death, rejection of impact more and more. Maybe some differences could be in the anime about characters and their developments.

For rebuilds Evangelion 2 is best rebuild. Third movie is really a shock for me but it seems like connectable for fourth movie. We will see together.

Yes it is not a correct answer, NGE anime is the best, manga is something that was never needed, and is bad.
Third Rebuild is masterpiece that can even match EoE.

DONE.

Its 2017 and everyone knows that the rebuilds suck . Even though in 1.0 and 2.0 Rei's character development is much better than the original they completely ruined the most popular character of the whole show and honestly my 2nd reason to watch the whole show.Asuka is completely self dependant and does not need any other persons recognition like the original but that completely ruins the character as she feels more like a side character rather than any of the main characters. The budget cuts even though ruined the status of the original show at least the made up for it in End of Evangalion but this is just taking what the original show had and using only a fourth of its full potential.Even though 1.0 and 2.0 were good films and 3.0 was ok it will never be able to stand out on its own and will act like a side story or a parallel universe to the original
