the preparation before battle. everyone is getting their stuff together before the big battle starts.

one would not even think there would be love triangles in this show and yet there is. pretty interesting.

I have played sins of a solar empire and now that i have seen this i can see similarity in various ship deployment and what not. i thought that was neat. one might even think that that game got some of its inspiration from this show.

Good episode. =)
It's really fearful to just wait and do nothing when you know that enemy may pop up next second and blow you to pieces. So... I'm kinda understands why Samson drinking so hard. =)

Well, the relationship between Lafiel and Jinto is the main focus of the series. But, yeah the other relationships are somewhat surprising. The thing I like about this series is it's maturity, you don't ever get any overblown melodrama. Which is quite impressive when the two main characters are so young.

My favorite episode so far. Samson also became my favorite character, everything about him is so ... human.

i agree with all of the above comments; this series separates itself from the norm and uniquely diversifies every genre it touches, whether it be romance, drama or even a space opera. it just 'feels' right, not sure how else to explain my standpoint ^^

i like the comment on Sins of a Solar Empire, this is exactly what was going through my head when i first saw ship classes and formations through the first couple battles. very nostalgic ^^

People have different ways to prepare for battles, but I suppose drinking isn't too uncommon.

The calm before the storm. Why do I get a bad feeling about these Bebaus twins in charge?

I think I would be the same as that other human . . . Not exactly feeling "at home" amongst a ton of Abh. I mean, it isn't like you have to fear discrimination (I think), but standing beside a bunch of people who are running on an entirely different clock doesn't sound too fun.

I almost didn't realize he switched to a completely different language when he was telling the story about the mole. I thought it was uh...drunk-speak.

Being surrounded by beautiful and ageless Abhs kind of highlights the fact that Samson's growing old, and that's not fun :p

I think I'm missing something but why do they never show the enemy? Maybe that's why I still cannot enjoy the show. I guess I'm just used to the way LOGH handles battles by constantly switching between both sides!

Yeah, this show is too focused on the Abh. And the little they've shown of the Alliance was pretty negative. I've grown to resent that somewhat because it's otherwise a very good and mature show. That it so rarely portrays negatively the Abh or never shows any positive to the Alliance is jarring (they're like faceless villians). It makes me root for the Abh to lose because I'm seeing the show try to portray them as the good guys. They have their positives for sure, but they definitely want to subjugate humanity and is looking down on them. Why it's so rarely portrayed negatively, I have no idea.

A show like LOGH showed both postives and negatives and introduced many likeable characters on both sides. It split the fanbase over which side to root for. I really miss that dynamic and so far, Banner of the Stars is disappointing me due to the lack of focus on the Alliance.

I have to admit that the side characters are getting a lot more development than I expected in this season. Even though the focus is still Lafiel and Jinto, a lot of the other members of the cast are getting development, particularly Samson in this episode. Everything he said seemed perfectly relatable for someone in his situation. He's away from his homeland, surrounded by seemingly ageless people, and the only other person left who is like him is both young and of a much higher status than him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was questioning whether he chose the right path to take, in a way.

I think the best way to word it would be to say that Samson is lonely and somewhat depressed. I can sympathize with that.

As always, I love the tie-ins to other cultures, in this case when Samson started telling the story of the mole in his native tongue.

For those claiming the view is too biased, I think we've been given a very neutral portrayal of the Abh despite mostly only being shown their side. The reason for this is to keep our perspective predominately linked to that of Jinto's despite the showing of events that directly relate to him. Jinto already has an idea of what his own people are like, and he's stayed with the Abh anyway. This was even related in the first season in that Jinto never felt like he missed his homeworld, which he himself admitted as probably being strange. Thus, to him the United Mankind may as well be a faceless enemy. There is thematic significance in that. This is meant to show things from another perspective.

To me, the amount of false propaganda spread about the Abh, as well as the knowledge that it was the United Mankind that started the war through underhanded means is enough for me to be satisfied with the portrayal on a basic level, even if we neglect the aforementioned themes present. Yes, I'm sure there are good people amongst the United Mankind (and we saw ourselves in the first season that there are plenty of good terrans), but what would be gained thematically by doing this? How would it help in exploring the ideals and perspective of this fictional foreign culture? What does it prove? That war is horrible? Please, do not propose to dilute what makes this story so piquant just to evoke some misplaced sense of fairness or non-bias. If you will judge the Abh as a whole, judge them, but don't ask to see other cultures that are, in the grand scheme of the narrative, far less relevant. This story isn't about them, nor should it be. (I also think this view is missing the point in that we have seen quite clearly-- especially in this season-- that the individual Abh vary just as much in personality as terrans do, despite similar cultural values.)

LOGH may be a great show, but focusing on all perspectives is not inherently superior to focusing on one. Each approach has its own purposes, strengths, and weaknesses, and although one may prefer one method over the other, myself included, I am strongly opposed to the idea that these storytelling methods are not equal in value, neglecting modifying elements.

As a side note, I have a sinking feeling that someone is going to die.

Let's pillage some water.
We can't. We don't have the equipment and it will take a year to build something.

I don't mind slow paced shows, but there are only 13 ep seasons. I hate when the ending is rushed. Slow paced shows should get at least a 24 ep season. For instance, I thought the ending to season 1 was rushed. I fear the same will happen to this season.

This epi was a bit slow paced.
Well I guess it's a setup for the battle.

Also funny how taking water from a planet is unpractical.

I forgot Jinto was twenty, but this episode reminded me. He looks and sounds much younger than he is. He ages as well as the Abh themselves do!

I'd say character designers of the show didn't care much, and it's a shame. In Crest Jinto runs around in Administrator uniform, in Banner he shows no signs of maturity, plus Yuka Imai might be a good actor but she's such a wrong pick for Jinto T__T Here, in Banner, there's episode with dresses, which the Abh canonically don't wear.
