Look, I checked again the Wikipedia and... Oban is a Half-Anime.
Although the animation, was made in Japan, still, the producers and the creators are from France.
For conclusion, it's a cooperation between France and Japan.

And that's it. Na-no-ne/De-aru/Relo XD

How did I not notice this thread?

yes, it is a co-op between france & japan, but since the animation was made in japan, it is anime.

Wrong, it's not anime. Avatar isn't anime either. Where it was animated doesn't make a difference, where it was PRODUCED does. Alot of anime is actually animated in Korea, but produced in Japan.

tl;dr: You're all wrong, stop acting like you know shit.

Most of the time when Korean or Japanese animators are contracted to do work on a Western series, they're just doing grunt work.

With Oban, there were actually Japanese people doing the music, the theme song, mecha design, and even working as episode directors.

Captain GARlock, you aren't worthy of that name. Avatar isn't anime because it's made entirely by Westerners and animated in Korea.

Oban is (mostly) anime because it was conceptualized by four guys in France and then made entirely(aside from the CG) by Japan under their direction. The overly cheap DVDs come with great "Making Of" movies.

Oban is a joint French/Japanese production. Just as Batman Gotham Knight and Immortal Grand Prix are US/Japanese productions. Japanese studios and producers collaborated with American studios and producers.

Avatar is actually animated by Dr. Movie in Korea but is majorly produced by Nick

It's the joint production that makes it allowed as an anime. Avatar was mostly American but it looks like in Oban, the work was shared pretty evenly. France covered the 3D work while Japan did the 2D work.

Given the concept and writing was all done by the French team, I'd say it's more French than Japanese.

More importantly, who cares? It's a good show, never mind who made it. I wouldn't mind this site listing more clearly non-Japanese works.

Eh, I usually count things as being anime or not depending on where the head honchos are, I mean Family Guy is animated in Korea but that doesn't make it Korean.

So yeah, while I don't count Oban as anime, at the end of the day I can only say "Who cares? It's great and I loved watching it, I don't care where it's from!"

It's a fabulous series. People just don't want to consider it anime because it has a unique art style that doesn't have MOE KAWAII DESU DESU eyes and characters that all look identical save for hair color/style. They also think it's way too childish or something, nevermind the fact that it has a combination of story, character developement, and emotional attatchment that far surpasses over half of the anime out there with the 'mature' tag.

I don't care if it's technically anime or not. Either way I found the series to be ok overall. I do think it was fairly childish and aimed at a young audience and while it might be better than half the anime that has a mature tag, that's not really saying much. Even though I do believe it to be aimed at children, I did enjoy parts of the series, and by no means regret watching it. The ending was especially enjoyable although I did find parts of the last few episodes to be anti-climatic.

people could make the same argument of Spider Riders......... seeing as it was created primarily in Canada...... but they are both good so lets drop it shall we?
"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."
