The only decent part were the scenes of the Arata on earth going to school, rest was Arata on the other world being a pussy as usual. Arata might have the strongest weapon in the world, but in the hands of that wishy washy little coward its just a hunk of metal. This show might have been good if it would focus almost entirely on the Arata on earth. Oh but look! He got his conviction back again at the end of the episode for the 10th time! Arata on earth is only thing saving this series for me. |

That was bad. Kotoha clinging to Arata like that in the beginning was awkward. So we learn about Kannagi's past but I can't really care since one second he's trying to kill Arata and then he's not. At least it seems like they'll be allies now? Andyis said: that was weird. he was acting like such a coward I assume you're talking about Arata. He's been cowardly since episode 1 though. Fiji said: Oh, the one who made Arata into this mess is Kannagi, now he is inviting Kannagi to join? What???? they bffs now! Best part was school Arata. I wouldn't mind way more of the school life. Looks like Kadowaki will be angry in the next ep. I guess that'll give me something to look forward too next week. Two girls have some screentime and they both manage to trip. WHAT THE HELL MAN, GIVE ME A BREAK. That goes on my list of "shit I hate". face+desk palm+face shaking my head lol at this post being my 1337 forum post ಥ_ಥ |

Okay, first thing I feel that needs to be said: that shit where Arata froze in fear after Kannagi offered the opportunity to strike him down while he was unarmed did not fucking happen in the manga. I'm genuinely annoyed at this adaptation now since the people who are altering the storyline to fit this into one cour clearly don't know how to handle a character of Hinohara's archetype, despite it being done many times before. Satelight, you're inching closer to the point where you can no longer make the protagonist palatable. You make him more of a simpering mess ever time you pad or cut out details. Stop it. I'll get back to commenting on the rest later. God, this anime... =_=;; |

Nice seeing Kadowaki's ass get handed to him by Arata on modern earth XD I love that Arata. He's hilarious and BA!! Poor Kotoha, she's been Imouto zoned XD Finally we get to know about Kannagi's past and he joined?? Wow I didn't expect that. Also I wonder what happened to Akachi after that and how he became a Sho? So it seems like the big shots on the baddy side have gathered now. Nxt ep seems that the modern earth will be the main focus. Can't wait. |

Aww Arata and Kotoha gettin' cozeh ehh? Oh darn Arata don't just ignore her. It was awesome to see the past between Emisu, Kannagi and Akachi :) The Emisu x Kannagi feels!! What a sad story... Arata's proposal ooh!! And all the Shos take action! |

Irritated at how big if a poon Hinohara is. Would have been best if Earth Arata just became the Sho instead, or the story focused on Earth way more. I'm tired of watching this coward prance around. I'd be completely accepting if Hinohara was weak, or if he had conviction like Vash and just didn't want to take life. But THIS? It's annoying. Point the friggin blade at him! He'll stop walking forward when he starts stabbing himself! Jesus. And the worst part is, I am very confident that this is NOT how Hinohara was portrayed in the Manga, even though I haven't read it. I think they are just facking up his character in the Anime. |

Wow, another Arata is so strong! Is that Suzuki-san who also voiced one of the "friend" of the friend who has grudge on Arata in the present? Is that Hayami-san who voiced Amise? So it was him feeling guilty for not being about to save her. And that's a sudden development with him joining Arata. That megane guy... NamiDai? |

Oh wow seems like the anime is screwing up the characters huh. Not the best way to go. I wonder why they changed it o_o Do not understand what the scriptwriter is thinking. Maybe I will pick the manga back up now. Can't stand Arata (Hinohara) being such a coward. And I was finally liking him in the last episode too. niaxato said: This show might have been good if it would focus almost entirely on the Arata on earth. Oh but look! I feel that the other Arata has a far more interesting personality anyways. And you're right about the conviction part...it's kind of annoying me because I don't like him for one episode, and then the next I think he's okay, and then I go back to disliking him. They need a new scriptwriter. |

Arata going to school and beating up Kadowaki Hinohara meets Kannagi and reverts back to his former self but Kotoha saves him from being killed. A flashback of Kannagi and his lover Emisu who died in that same spot. Hinohara invites Kannagi to join them. The 12 Sho's are making their movie. It would have been better to have each episode focus on each Arata. For example One episode about Hinohara and the journey in Awanikuni while the next episode about Arata in school/modern world. Repeat this process until the last few episodes when Kadowaki appears in other world. |

Aside that the other Arata is interesting, the problem is that the anime is making Hinohara a total pussy. At this point in the manga he already stopped having fear of everything and displayed a sense of humor but the anime just makes him not likable. And the flashback totally destroyed Akachi and Kannagi's past. In the manga Akachi and Emisu were slaves because their parents were criminals (in that world the children have to pay for the parents' sins and Akachi's dead father had a sentence of +400 years while Emisu had less years). Kannagi's father was showing him the slave market and decided to buy Akachi and Emisu when they were about to be sold because Kannagi couldn't see Akachi getting abused. When they lived with Kannagi, Akachi and Emisu had bracelets on their feet which made them unable to walk more than 50 feet (that's why Emisu seemed so far away when Akachi and Kannagi were sparring). Akachi and Emisu couldn't even touch during all those years because of that feet restriction. Kannagi managed to free them from their bracelets during the revolt Kannagi's family's slaves made. On the other hand, in the manga we saw how the other Arata behaved during school: sleeping in class, playing with his stuff because he's bored, not understudying math classes... Kadowaki tries to make pranks on him but since Arata doesn't understand our world those attempts end up in failure. He even mocked Kadowaki unconsciously by calling him "Karashi" (mustard). And the other Arata was supposed to appear after Hinohara escapes from Gatoya (after an arc ends the story focuses on the other Arata). And Hinohara didn't look scared when Arata mentioned Kadowaki, he only got upset about the weird things he's doing while other people think he's Hinohara. Hinohara's sister starts to suspect something. |

As is often the case with anime, MC Arata didn't kill his opponent Kannagi. That scene was stressful to watch though the creator tried to make the story interesting with it. |

mistress_kisara said: I'm okay with Hinohara..the director of the TV series did say they were gonna change some stuff, I think its a bad idea though. And it looks like the "exchange" between Harunawa and Kadowaki will happen next episode. In my opinion, the sponsors is the one who should be blamed, not the director. I think it is bad idea to do giving budget to do only 12 episodes and without having a second season in mind when there are about 200 chapters of the manga which is still ongoing, then again it seems the sponsors seems to make the correct choice this time because Arata DVD/BD sales seems to be one of the lowest this season. Though I wonder if the low sales is because this series is more a JM Animation (which is a Korean animation studio) production rather than Satelight. Not trying to be racist, but it looks like some Japanese people seems to hate anything to do with Korean, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo also getting low sales just because a Korean food in one of its episodes. |

So happy to see the other Arata finally. Even if it was only for a few minutes, it was cool to see his personality fit into that world. And he kicked Kadowaki's ass too (or I guess his face) xD ~The other Sho are appearing too ^^ |

It's hard to tell how how strong Hinohara's resolve really is... He can't swing a sword but can jump into flames risking burns? Obligatory flashback to make Kannagi sympathetic too. What a way to go Emisu : / On to Arata's part of the episode, even though Kadowaki hasn't had much of an impact on the overall narrative so far besides making Hinohara a wimp it was great to see him put in his place Seems like we'll be having a whole episode of the modern world next week, this is what I wish the show has been more of a focus on Hinohara's AND Arata's narratives to form an interesting series instead of the lopsided focus we've been exposed to for a while now. |

I'm already reading the manga but I'm still confused. Were Kannagi and Emisu lovers or what? Because what I understood is that she was in love with Akachi but I wonder if she fell for Kannagi while living together in that village? It was a bit vague, so I couldn't really tell the nature of the relationship between the two. |

4/5 I continue to look at him to realize if they are really crazy to destroy a good story like this with an anime that can not break through for many reasons, including the main protagonist is a show too obnoxious in the eyes of the viewer because very incisive in many contexts and the poor quality that they are taking to realize it graphically. cute the part with Arata and also one in which we speak of the past shared by Akachi and Kannagi. I think the speech made earlier about the Japanese and the things that hate is also due to the fact that except for rare cases there chauvinism is strong! So Chinese and Korean are banished anything they represent! |

A good episode showing more of Kadowaki and fantasy Arata. They also did well with Akachi and Kannagi's backstory, yet they did water it down a little. Maybe they'll go into it a little more thoroughly when they show Akachi's side of the story? But Kannagi is now on the team and Arata is back on his quest. Also, they have the Kidowaki coming to the fantasy world next episode and show Yorunami and his zokusho in wait, while Akachi and his zokusho are keeping an eye on the six Masked Sho who are on the move. Again, I have no idea why they are putting all this foreshadowing to future events that this show will never be able to get to? However, they are doing an alright job adapting the manga. I give this episode a 7.8/10. |

Akachi and Emisu couldn't even touch during all those years because of that feet restriction. Kannagi managed to free them from their bracelets during the revolt Kannagi's family's slaves made. I thought they watered that down a lot and failed to show what a brutal world Amawakuni is. How children have to suffer greatly from their parents even small mistakes, as even light crimes are heavily punished. How Akachi never told Emisu that they were brother and sister so no one could find out and add years onto her sentence as they had done him (I think it was 500 years he had to serve as a slave, while she only had half that). He has protected Emisu all his life and he only asked Kannagi to do one thing and that was protect his sister. They also forgot to mention that in all those years that Akachi and Emisu were slaves (they had time to grow up from boys to adults) that Kannagi never told Akachi (his best friend) that it was not his father who bought them, but he himself. All those years together and he never told him that he was their owner, and that he could have released them at anytime, that he could have taken of their ankle bracelets at anytime. He only tells them when the revolt happens and you can see how much it hurts Akachi to learn this just from the betrayal on his face. However, they may talk about that a bit more when they show Akachi's side of the story. |

Well, that was a little complicated: The way I think it was was that Akachi and Emisu were siblings but Akachi never told Emisu so that the slavers would never know that they were related. If they did they would have made Emisu's sentence as long as Akachi's which was I think about 500 years. Emisu however never knowing the two were siblings fell in love with Akachi despite the fact that Kannagi was the one in love with her. However after the rebellion and Kannagi and Emisu's escape, she became closer to Kannagi though she never forgot about Akachi. The two thought Akachi was dead the entire time (Oh, the irony...) until after Emisu died and Kannagi became a Sho. It is then that he and Akachi meet again, this time both as Shos and both equal. However when Akachi asks after Emisu, Kannagi falls to his knees and surrenders himself to Akachi telling him of Emisu's death and even though that was one thing Akachi had asked of him, Kannagi had failed to protect his best friend's sister. He is willing to die at Akachi's hands for his failure. Akachi doesn't attack Kannagi but tells him its okay and these things happen, but Kannagi knows that the man doesn't mean it. That's why Kannagi was more surprised at the fact that Akachi was attacking his zokusho, not that he was attacking in general. Ever since the two have been tiptoeing around each other, never having the relationship they once shared. |

Hinohara was not only being a wimp, he was being an idiotic wimp. "Hey, my sword protected me from the fire-snakes last time ... let me charge into the midst of them leaving my sword behind! I don't need to make any effort to get my sword back, I'm just going to charge into danger in hopes that the villain behind me is going to have a change of heart and save us!" It was good to see badass-Arata in the real world, kicking Kadowaki's ass, which really saved the episode. It was kinda neat seeing Kannagi's backstory, but Akachi got hit by the stupid ball as well in this episode. He claimed the boat 'only had room for two' ... and then they show Kannagi and Emisu sitting in the expansive hold of a full-sized ship. Room for two my ass! Maybe if it was a little dinky rowboat ... Showing the six masked Sho makes me think they're going to accelerate the hell out of things and probably make up an anime-original ending ... which doesn't bode very well for this series. |

Another mark another one up for adaptation-induced slip-ups. He doesn't shield himself with Tsukuyo's light in the manga like he does here. Correct me if I'm wrong, manga people, but... the Tsukuyo should only negate Kamui right? Usually I don't give too much credence to the complaints of manga purists about adaptations, but in this case it sounds like they are right. The summaries of the manga storyline sound more interesting and more coherent than the anime. Not devoting enough time to the backstories of the Sho, and shorting us on what is happening back on Earth, haven't helped. |

Well to be honest, it takes Arata a while to become stronger and gain self-esteem, here he was acting on instinct to save Kotoha, even if it was the stupid thing to do. As for Akachi, they weren't getting on the boat yet but a small elevator that travels to the surface. One thing they haven't really shown is that the land that Kannagi and Akachi are from is actually an underground city, so to escape it would require them to go to the surface. Also of the three, Akachi knew he was the strongest, he knew he had to hold off the rebelling slaves so that Kannagi and Emisu could escape. |
