So the strings must refer to the strings tripped by the horse as it passes by which in turn triggers the camera shutter to take a picture then combining the 24 shots get you 24 frames per second motion picture.

I did a bit of online research on him, it seems he really did shot and murdered the lover of his wife whom he suspected to be the father of his son. He was acquitted on grounds of "justifiable homicide". The kid could be his real son though as wikipedia says he strongly resemble Muybridge in his adult photograph but I digress. Really interesting history there.

I was a bit creeped-out when the hand of the child came out of the piano! O_o And then the crabs... which finally made sense to me when I saw in the credits, Crab Canon by J.S. Bach,1747. XD Crab Canon was an interesting musical score by itself!

I didn't like the art and animation but I guess it's just me. Anyway I give it 7/10 because I still enjoyed it and it piqued my curiosity in the end.

Yeah. the National Film Board of Canada has many "artsy" and experimental animated shorts like this. I remember seeing some of them on Canadian TV when I was growing up. And then seeing more of them when the NFB put them online.
The NFB does more than just animated shorts, though.

I was really mesmerized by the story of this movie. Poor old guy for experiencing that whole shit, infidelity is a bitch for sure.

So that pocket watch he threw at the sea in the end was the same one his wife found inside that fish?

Anyways this was great 6/10.
