The first time I watched this was the dub version at the cinema. I've rewatched the dubbed version a few times on dvd and I wanted to know if anyone had originally seen it dubbed, then watched it in Japanese and found it to be better? I don't want to watch it in Japanese and find that it ruins my fond memories of the film, but through previous experience, the original Japanese voices always seem to be better, like with Ponyo.

Subs are usually better. But in this case, the dub isn't that bad.. I suggest that you watch it in dub since you have fond memories over it

I've watched all the ghiblies in dubs since I've doing that since I was a kid. I only watch subs for all other anime though.

So I stick with dubs for the ghibli films for nostalgia.

Well I don't know if it was better, I watched it dubbed first then watched it subbed, but usually Japanese voices on especially Ghilbi films are really cool and unique. I don't think it would hurt to try it in Japanese.

I watched it in dub because the subs sucked badly IMO.

These movies are dubbed by Disney.
They know what they're doing.
Meanwhile, in the magical world of anime.

Of course DUB. Only lame people read subtitles and get their eye blind.

Don't watch the dubbed version, the acting isn't bad, but Disney dumbed down the story by changing the script because it was too cruel(or too exotic) for American kids.
