I dont get this character.

Why does he go dark side?

I hate characters like this who won't kill. But this douche has gone one step further and joined them.

Seriously though, unless I am mistaken, he didnt want to be a monk in the first place? He only became a monk because it was a family duty, I guess he saw Sunako as an escape from those duties...

No, he just empathized with Sunako and the rest of the Shiki and grew attached to Sunako. He's the most empathetic character in the series. Dr Ozaki and his human followers were savage torture freaks.
