| The confession and kiss scene in Ano Natsu is one of the finest in anime. The emotion, the passion, the twining of their hands, the clink of their glasses as their lips meet, the pint sized girl with the huge zoom lens filming it all... It is just fantastic! Even the dialog rises above the normal kiss scene. When Kaito tells her she can't tell him she likes him, because he wants to do it first, her response, first shock, then that mixture of relief (after all, even when you are pretty certain of the other person's feelings and the same species, it is still nerve wracking to come out and say it for the first time) then that overpowering rush of warmth and tenderness. Then she replies, "I don't think I knew, but I fell in love".  She offers her hand and his fingers gently entwine with hers as they lean in and kiss, glasses clinking against one another along the way... Wonderful!  Most shows, that would be it, the climax of the episode and to a certain extent, the series. But not Ano Natsu! As their lips part from their "first" kiss, we see a glint of light reflecting off of something on the other side of the lake. What is it? Remon-sempai, with her massive zoom lens, filming the whole scene!  Then, back with the love-birds, we have Kaito admitting that it was his first kiss, to which Ichika replies that it was her fourth... FOURTH?!?!? Then she explains, all of her previous "kisses" where when she transferred healing nanites from her body to his to save his life. As he laments how unromantic that saw, she has one more surprise in store...  And... There's more?!? This is the fifth time... That ranks right up there with Toradora! and "Again". When you combine it with the cuddling in the next episode, it really makes Ichika and Kaito one of the most lovey dovey couples around! |
