That scene with Shinya was extremely unnatural in my opinion, that change of heart and a little monologue seemed quite unfit to come so early.

Okay, we were spoon-fed the idea that the world of psycho-pass is a messed up dystopia whose people just obey it because that's the only thing they know [much like our world I'd say] and cannot think outside the boundaries of the system. Yawn. Next, please.

@scorpioniclibra idk what was so unnatural the series just started and we dont really know what kind of person Shinya is judge his actions are out of character or not... to me what he said made sense and fit well with the situation

@jilebi_james23 I never used the term "out of character" here. His character may as well be quite fit to have these types of changes of heart, it's just that it quite literally came to soon, which is a writing critique. From "we'll hunt the prey and you'll observe. That's all there is to it", willingness to shoot and kill the woman who was the distressed victim because following orders, all these sings of coldness, aloofness and detachment, and even in the monologue itself admitting that he's been the enforcer for a long time who just shot whoever the gun told him to without much looking back - to simply admitting that he was a fool and that "being a detective is about protecting". Over this one incident. So this one incident holds that much leverage, so much that it outweights every single opposite decision that he has made in that long time being an enforcer? Or is our detective just that magical he simply had to have a change of heart, because hey, he can now "work as a detective, and not as a dog" next to such an amazing boss! That he met like what, yesterday?

To put it simply, the change of heart fits his character, the timing doesn't work. But it's psychopass, they kill it in other departments so writing issues fall to the back and i still looove the show dearly!
