In terms of Nayuki getting the love she deserves, Kanon 2002 blows 2006 out of the water hands down.

Everything else, 2006 wins =P

No matter what anyone says, Nayuki got shafted by both adaptations. However, at least she got her clock scene in 2002 and I believe the kiss as well iirc.

Read volumes 1 and 2 of the new manga adaptation. No scanlated version though, but you can get it at AnimeSuki if you are interested.

read the old manga adaptation. that was boring ._.

probably read the new one when the scanlation comes out.

pimptoad: which clock scene u talking about? unless u mean the one where she kisses him? and I don't think Kanon 2002 beats 2006 in tat regard either. I mean sure she got a kiss, but chin-Yuuichi was a real bastard to her back then, as opposed to Kyon-Yuuichi who was much nicer.

I'm talking about probably the most pivotal scene in the visual novel for Nayuki. Yuuichi leaves her a message recorded on the clock about waiting for her at the train station, just like she did 7? years ago. In the novel, this ends up with a Yuiichi/Nayuki pairing and ends with a kiss^_^

2002 is better in that aspect because TOEI ACTUALLY SHOWED THE SCENE unlike the kyoani 2006 version which didn't even hint at it at all. (Why I prefer the 2002 version just a tad bit more)

The clock scene probably being the focal point of the Nayuki arc, Nayuki fans were obviously pissed about our goddess being shafted yet again.

Now don't get me wrong, Nayuki got shafted in both versions; but kyoani committed a greater sin by not showing the clock scene.

This is not a question of how Yuuichi treated her in the adaptations, but how they portrayed the scenes pivotal to the development of the Nayuki arc.

Won't even say character because EVERY adaptation failed in that aspect xD

Just going to state this now...
You are not a Nayuki fan if you don't even know of the clock scene. If I ruffle some feathers with this statement, then I apologize...but its the truth!

i do know of the clock scene but needed a bit more info to know u were referring to that. but anyway Toei did show part of the scene with Nayuki leaving a message on teh clock, but I believe Yuuichi didn't return the message. Bastard 2002 Yuuichi.

If I remember, in 2002 Yuuichi was making plans to move back to his parents after Akiko's accident, and overall being a selfish bastard not caring for anyone else's feelings. That moving out scene paved the way for Nayuki to leave a message on her clock for Yuuichi just as he was about to leave for good. In 2006 Yuuichi never made plans to leave, and thus the window for the clock message wasn't there. I feel that, if you're not going to take the Nayuki path, this is the better way. Otherwise you'll end up like it was in 2002 where Nayuki gets hurt even more because Yuuichi doesn't leave his own message because...he picked Ayu. >_> 2006 was much nicer to Nayuki in terms of how her feelings were treated.

Heh maybe this should be a topic? xD

As for the clock scene, there was only one clock scene...Well in the visual novel anyway. I believe there was a scene in 2002 where Nayuki left a message, but that was Toei BS and it doesn't count. Yuuichi moving out was just something Toei came out for God knows why, so that extra clock scene shouldn't even be mentioned at all =P

If I recall correctly, it was Yuuichi's parents that were forcing him to move out due to Akiko's incident. Its not that he wanted to move out, he was forced to move out. Have to understand that Toei didn't really remain faithful to the novel while kyoani tried at least somewhat to do so.

Even in the novel, Yuuichi was never going to move out. So kyoani not putting in the scene because the window wasn't there is a moot point, that and the scene was just something Toei added in. This knowledge comes from a very pathetic understanding of the Japanese language, so I'm not so sure about it.

Yuuichi did leave a message in 2002, hence the clock scene and Nayuki running to the train station and kissing Yuuichi. 2006 didn't, hence the angry mob wanting kyoani blood until they announced Clannad xD

In terms of character development, 2006 did a much better job but Nayuki was still shafted bad.

In terms of novel faithfulness, 2002 beats 2006 just because the clock scene was included.

The clock scene was just way too important in regards to Nayuki. She snapped out of her depression because of it, so definitely a defining moment for Nayuki don't you think so?

right I know the moving out part was a Toei thing they made up. My point here I guess is there's no way to have Nayuki's clock scene without fully investing her feelings into Yuuichi. and since Yuuichi is preset for the Ayu route, he would never be able to return his own message. I get the feeling the moving out part was a device by Toei used so they could get the clock part out without actually going down the Nayuki route. I guess it could be said that just because they got the clock part in there that they were better to Nayuki, but in my opinion the emotional suffering that Nayuki had to go thru (in ADDITION to the suffering from Akiko's accident) to get to that scene negates the benefits. I say KyoAni was more generous because they probably realized the clock scene can't really be included without either going down the Nayuki path or hurting Nayuki's feelings a lot.

It's really too bad that Ayu's and Nayuki's routes are almost mutually exclusive and contradictory. In any anime adaptation of the original game, for one to succeed the other must fail, even more so then all the other Kanon girls.

The Toei thing was made up, unless there is some secret part of the game that I never got too...

If kyoani can change how that specific scene occurred, then why not just change the contents of the message? Love wasn't needed in the message, maybe just confidence so Nayuki will get out of her depression.

In the Toei version, the kiss signifies Nayuki's resignation of her feelings to Yuuichi. (well what I thought about it anyway)

Nayuki also suffered a lot in the kyoani version as well. Because of how they interleaved the different storylines, Nayuki had to sit by and watch as she continually gets ignored while Yuuichi does his thing...xD

Ayu should have died in the 2006 version, 'nuff said =P

Ah just to add, the Toei version was a reverse clock scene in which Nayuki reveals her feelings to Yuuichi just before he was about to leave.

Regardless, still a clock scene =P

Kyoani replaced said scene with Kaori.
Loses a lot of the emotional feeling as oppose to a recorded message of Yuuichi. You would think he would at least talk to her about treating her like poo and ignoring her feelings, but all he could think about is Ayu. I guess you can consider kyoani more generous in this regard...*I seriously hope you can all see the sarcasm in this*

*angry mob may return if clannad doesn't deliver* xD

lol, at least Yuuichi got Kaori because he knew he needed some help. now tell me, what did Toei Yuuichi do to help her feelings out? nothing, she had to get out of that rut herself.

Actually, it was Jun who called Kaori. Jun was worried about what was going on and decided to stop by Nayuki's house.

Of course Yuuichi ran into Jun while running over to God knows where after having a dream about Ayu.

When he left the house, it showed specifically Yuuichi going over past Nayuki's room with only Ayu in his mind. I guess some girl he met 7 years ago is more important than consoling a family member who is in a state of depression ne? Would also like to add a cousin who has been in love with you since you were little and how you treated her like a piece of poop then and now...

Actually, the Toei version was much worse really. They just made Nayuki sit in the hospital so Yuuichi can place all his worries on Ayu.

Only reason kyoani isn't bombarded by death threats due to rabid Nayuki fans is the teaser trailer of Clannad in episode 24, (sharpens pitchfork) xD

Lets just say both shafted Nayuki real bad, but Toei wins because of clock scene and kissu! xD

right, Jun called her, my bad. but yea since Toei made her sit in the hospital the entire time with no friends to console her that's major fail in my book.

Nayuki staying in the hospital throughout her mother's stay is definitely something Nayuki would do. IIRC, the game even made her go home. Toei just stuck her in there...

Considering the location, probably only family members are allowed to enter the room? Since Yuuichi is off having fun with Ayu, no love for Nayuki...

Wow, I'm making the side I'm supporting look bad...That can't be good right? xD

Still better than having your cousin abandon you just because he had a vision of some girl that is supposed to be dead. Jun being there is just kyoani's way of substituting the clock scene.

Speaking of which, isn't there a running gag as to what the 'Jun' character's purpose is? o-O

*shameless post to keep club semi-active*

Was semi-bored and decided to compare 2002 vs 2006...

I want to change my vote just because kyoani drew Nayuki so much better than toei xD

Then again, toei pretty much butchered every key adaptation they did...

I voted for KyouAni. I like her the most of all Kanon girls. I didn't watch 2002 version, but from that I heard, Nayuki was ignored in that version.

None of them did because both focused on Ayu as the winner. Somehow I think anime creators have a thing nowadays pairing a guy up with a girl that still looks like she's still a child, and Ayu still looks like she's a little girl still in grade school, both in looks and maturity level. Yuuichi is also a problem, he is focuses all of his worry on Ayu and not enough on Nayuki that was going through a difficult hardship not knowing what the fate of her mother was going to be. Yuuichi should've stayed with her and not rely on Kitagawa to look after Nayuki and chasing after Ayu. I thought KyoAni was going to a better job with Nayuki's arc better than Toei, but they screwed it up, especially when Nayuki gets out of her depression and finds Yuuichi, in the original game, she leans over the bench to kiss Yuuichi, but the KyoAni version screwed that scene up. So in the end the only version that gave Nayuki any justice was the original game of her story arc and her ending. The only way I'll forgive KyoAni is if they re-do Kanon and give Nayuki her proper ending.
