*Belated* Thank you guys for all the sweet compliments! I really appreciate it.
@joel- That's the way to do it! http://almightyhighelf.deviantart.com/#/d4y9e4y
I do several thumbnails until I have something I like, and then I do a couple of larger roughs to work out the little details before I start the final. So you're off to a good start!
@blueunicorns- Your drawings are really great and you have the ability to arrnage sketches and doodles on a page in a way that looks good, I'm totally jealous. I suck at that. @_@
With your color, try to start incorperating other colors instead of just flats. Play around with it and see if you like the result!
@Blackstars- Your lines are very clean and not squiggly which makes me very jealous. No matter how hard I try I just can't do that- The compass and the ruler are my best friend, but they never feel right with the lest of my linework so great job making it all blend!
@Saya- Looks great! I do the same thing- I pull out my sketchbooks from 12 years ago for fun and re-draw whatever it was I drew. I do it with my sketchbooks from 1-2 years ago as well. With those ones, however, I've found that in some cases I prefer my older drawings! I've taken so many life drawing classes that my style became more realistic, but still too in-between realistic and stylized to look any good. My old sketches are super stylized, which is where I want to go back to. You can learn a LOT by looking at your older work!
Also, I think you would REALLY enjoy some of CLAMP's older works, especially X/1999, Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth and RG Veda. Their style isn't as detailed as it used to be, and you seem to gravitate towards a style similar to their old one. Give Dragon Knights (manga) a try as well (not CLAMP), it's alsol one of them action-shoujos.
@Cross Angel- Same to you! Go read X! You would also really enjoy works by Arina Tanemura, judging by your second drawing. Both look great =D
@Bluestar- Looks great! I like the subtle blue you put in the eyes. When you're doing a dual portait like that just be careful not to do each side seperately. Treat the entire thing as one face and then go back in and add features. Also, eyes are one eyelength apart- just a little trick you learn in drawing classes. =D But it looks good! |
