Glad Matsuda's not doing the deal; he's still not very old. At least Yagami's older, so the consequences won't be as severe. Probably.

Soichiro is such a tragic character that reading these chapters make me sad. They're more interesting here than in the anime, though.

Plus, part of him wants to die so that Sayu and Sachiko can be safe, since he's being used for information by Mello. If he dies they have no reason to threaten Sayu and if he lives he'll have caught Mello and the others, which makes Sayu safe, so it's a win-win situation for him. It's still sad, though.

that's not making any sense man, the threaten on his daughter is no more.
soichio saying loudly he couldn't live with himself that he handed the death note to evil people.

and about the anime, the reason they shortened the mafia arc is from obvious reason that this arc isn't fitting to the overall theme of death note.

@User-Name What do you think IS the overall theme of Death Note? Because I have seen differing opinions on it.

@animalia psychological-mind-game-mystery-detective-thriller theme. the mafia arc is too much of police-politic-action-drama theme that feels out of place in the manga. (the difference between detective-mystery to police-action, is the same difference between die hard to sherlock holmes)
when you read the manga marathonly you can feel the mafia arc have different feel and theme than the L arc. near arc feeling odd too, but because it's using more of the build-up theming it's feel that way.
(i'm marathoning the manga once half a year, and it's always bugging me, because you can't just skip the mafia arc, or you wouldn't understand why melo is still in near arc)

@animalia no.
does he disagree with my theme inspection?

and if he talking about the fact that the creators didn't wanted to make near and mello arc aka part 2 of DN, it's common known. (the duo actually joke about it in bakuman, that most mangaka are forced to continue their story by jump)
