| I actually feel pain reading this series. It reminds me so much of myself as a freshman in high school, back when I realized I liked girls. It's almost similar to a laughable point... being in love with your best friend, going with a guy who confessed to you... having them be all happy for you. For those reasons, it made this chapter harder to read than any of the others. I'm loving it, though! |

It's like if I were to read a shoujo romance manga where het romance is clearly implied from the start and then complained why the main love interest isn't gay. It would make no sense, and everyone would call me out on it - rightfully so. And anyways, there are already plenty of stories with lesbians suffering for the sake of "realism"; you can go and read literally any of those instead if that's what you want to see. By the way, Mariko has been dealing with intense jealousy and all sorts of angst for multiple chapters at this point. Why is it "out of character" that eventually she wouldn't be able to contain it? |
