I liked reading the manga so far but I don't know if the anime is worth the 52 episode time investment. What do you guys think? I was thinking of watching the anime and then starting the manga from where the anime left off. Good idea? Thanks :)

It's one of the most generic Shounen series ever.

As stated previously by others, the show is at it's weakest at the start with the exception of a few short story arcs.

But after it finally gets kicking,it stops being a complete "generic shounen" and brings it's own redeeming qualities.Quite frankly,I almost dropped this anime because of the weak beginning, then I got to get really deep in this anime and I'm glad I never dropped it.

If you're like me who is a spoiled brat that hates it when something doesn't go right, don't watch it.

I stopped watching at Episode 37 (forgot which ep exactly).

MAJOR. Don't click unless you don't care for spoilers.

The only really bad thing is the ending.

It's a very unique and cool anime. Heard the manga was amazing though, so manga is probably better. I think you'll enjoy the anime. PS: By unique, I mean the fighting concept of using boxes to kill is interesting.

Seeing as manga doesn't talk, I think you will be fine.

I found the anime to be slightly above average, but nothing spectacular. It has an extremely weak start, but does pick up, although the 'final' battle was a bit of a letdown imo. Be that as it may, the battle's overall are interesting because of the dynamic with kekkai although I did get tired of hearing them yell it over and over and over again.

Overall I would say it's worth a watch, but wouldn't place it high priority. While there are some interesting aspects that are unique (jotsu etc) overall the story itself and characters are like most other shounen titles.

As Shonen are concerned this is a very good one, and I disagree with the claim "its one of the most generic Shonen." The setting and some of the things that happen in the anime in later arcs are far from generic. Its a very good series a solid 8. Only thing that pissed me off is that it ended just when it was getting to the meat of the plot. There's still a ton of content they left out and I don't think there's going to be another season.

If you reread the manga, you won't find much difference from the anime. Though they do change around the order that things happen a little; and in the manga, Tokine doesn't go to Kokuboro. The anime alone, is above average. But with the rest of the series--in manga form--it gets very good. The anime is most likely the 'worst' part of the whole series, but the events after the anime (starting with volume 13/35, I think) it gets more story driven, and you see the characters actually go for their goals, the characters get a lot stronger, the holes get filled in, ect.

The opening credits song sounds the way I imagine drunk karaoke would sound. Kekkaishi seems like a generic, but entertaining series, though.

I like all the characters in this anime. They are all very charming in their own way. The male MC does get annoying as the anime goes along. He screams alot. I have never seen a shounen anime where the male MC screams alot since DBZ. I also like how the male MC of this anime is not voiced by a chick.

All shounen animes have comedy scenes, which is one of the things that I just hate about it because it can ruin the atmosphere. But the thing is, in Kekkaishi, I loved all the comedy scenes. They fit perfectly. They made me smile. It was great.

I didnt like how this anime had tons of flashback scenes that almost took half the episodes. I dont need to know everyone's backstory in the form of a flashback.

Also, this anime had tons of episodic episodes. Sure, those episodes had the purpose of introducing the stories of characters, but we didnt need their stories to be the whole episode.

And also, around episode 35, this anime was a bit of a drag to keep watching.

Since this is a 52 episodes anime, I would have liked to see Yoshimori's unrequitted love be addressed.

This anime really needed to complete the manga. The ending felt incomplete.

Anywho, I gave this anime a 6-7 out of 10. As of right now, MAL has it at 7.78. I think thats way to high of a score.

But this anime is a great introduction anime to new anime fans, to introduce them to anime, to introduce them to action and comedy anime.

ending is horrible and almost made my hate the whole series.

but was a great ride, beginning is slow, but when it picks up it doesn't slow down

i'm just sad we never got a sequel, best moments happen after the anime.

I'm glad they kept the anime ending relatively canon (except they shoehorned Tokine in there for some reason).

not like the real ending is any better though.

definitely a chance for a sequel, i've seen worse series get sequels. We've also seen bad material get anime years after its over.

I would say its almost impossible though. They would have to dedicate about 100-150 episodes to finish it. You should just read the manga, its actually a really good read, the art and dialogue are nice and clean and matches the show perfectly. Put on some background music and get to reading. The manga gets really good after the show ends.
