was i in a bad mood while i was watching this, or is it a piece of shit?

i think everyone who rates it well is rating it based on the last 2 episodes only.

just because you shed a little tear in the last episode it doesnt make it good does it?

did anything happen at all during the first 9 episodes?

sorry to anyone who enjoyed this anime. i gave it a 5 because i was a bit moved by the ending as well

It's the entire story really, the character development was really good I think and the setting for it really was appropriate for that kind of story plot, because real life Japan can really relate to it, seeing as though they suffer from earthquakes on a daily basis. And let's not forget about what happened to them pretty recently. It's like a slice of life, because a situation like that could really happen.

sure thats all well and good, ive read the reviews and heard all about why it's great..

most reviews for this anime mention someshit like

"its nice to see a good anime without the need for ecchi or harem or excessive fan service"

"i enjoyed the realism"

"it really focuses on the people factor"

"character development"

heres what i think:

the best thing about this anime is you can watch it without subs, and you dont even need to be able to speak japanese. the dialogue consists of

"daijobu?"
"mm, daijobu"
"onee chan!"
daijobu ka!?"
"mm, Daijobu"
"mari san!"
"abuna!"
"daijobu desuka!"
"mm"

^if you understood this, dont bother with subs. the only other words they use are robo and kaeru

the whole story is about frogs, robots, and going home

sure its nice to see an anime without ecchi or harem. there are alot of good ecchi free anime that also have a solid story line. my everyday life makes for a better story than this, and i dont have much ecchi or harem going on in it

realism? more like super slow and boring. if a character goes to bed do you want to watch them sleep for the realism factor, or do you want to cut to the next scene when they are awake?just an example.. this didnt happen in this anime (the only one falling asleep was me)

i dont even remember where i was going with this.. i just wanna see if anyone agrees with me that this anime wasted their time, or if anyone can give me fresh reasons why they liked it, and how they would feel about it if it ended at episode 9. sorry

The story was really scripted out well. The creator mean't to have a slow pace in the beginning for us viewers to understand and develop a bond between the main characters. Therefore would be a stronger affect at the end when they slowly kill off a character.

In conclusion, people become heart broken when they see characters die after basically watching 8-9 episodes of them. You don't understand when someone is gone until their literally gone from this world.

I agree with you, the first 9 episodes were "kinda" and nothing special, actually sometimes boring!
But the 2 last episodes were really heartbreaking, especially if you have a little brother you can relate so much with this.
I gave 5/10 to the first 9 episodes, but because of the 2 last i had to upgrade to 6/10.
It wasn´t a good anime, but the 2 last episodes saved the anime.

I have a feeling that the OP didn't catch the character development during the first episodes and how much it changed the MCs.

If you saw that, I'm pretty sure you won't feel the same. These are signs that you will see because they are subtle (aka boring for you.)

To be honest I ain't much of a fan of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.

Mostly because I personally didn't felt much about it. I did shed a tear of course... but that's just it. I just shed a tear from it. Plus it wasn't my type of show when it comes to writing as I've seen better stuff out of the anime medium handling this much better.

I gave it a 7 because I do think it's still solid with the characters and how it handled the development, but other than that it hasn't done much of an impact even tho I have shed a tear. Felt like it could have been much better.

No matter how often I read it. Everytime I have to laugh out loud if people try to rate animes with the amount of sheded tears or killed people/flowed blood.

Either too much children watch anime or too much adults with childish personality. No comment on that.

It was good heartwarming 9 episodes followed by 2 heart-shattering episodes.
but the 2 last episodes saved the anime.

This is where people are wrong.
These 9 eps can't be separated from last 2 even though ending could have been different unlike shounens that looks continuous but can easily be separated from latter eps..

I thought the first ep is somehow boring, and after earthquake it gets better starting to buildup to last episodes.

Exactly.

I'm watching the episode 5 now and I must admit I cried in episodes 2, 3 and 4, but I never saw an earthquake, so I don't really know if it's really realistic or not, or how people react to it (because Japan has a lot of earthquakes, so they must know how to act during these, no?)
Maybe I cry to easily, but I'm enjoying watching the anime.
I wouldn't give it a 10 or anything like it (at least for now), but I'm enjoying it.

good character development and writing and for fucking once an anime that actually manages to convey a message obvious enough to actually be noticeable without unnecessarily turning it into garbage (looking at you assassination classroom)
