you know.
what to Romans spoke?
what the pope speaks?
that one dead language.
english and basically every Western language has ripped at least 50% of its vocabulary from Latin root words?

"sociology" for instance. Latin for socius, "companion" and the suffix -ology, "the study of"

you know, stuff like famous sayings like "alea iacta est"
or "alter ego"
or "alma mater"

Silly nitpick: -ology is, in fact, from Greek Logos ("word", "reasoning", "topic of discourse").

Now something I never got totally straight during the time I read it: are there specific word-order structures (i.e. when the verb comes, when the subject comes, when the object comes) that have different implications than others (say, verb-object-subject implies question, like in French) or are they all equal?
How is the world ruled and how do wars start? Diplomats tell lies to journalists and then believe what they read. | Report rules abuse | Your Panel | Clubs | Messages | Forum | Recent
