Somehow this lost a lot of it's charm by transitioning to manga. Maybe because in manga you set the pace while in the anime it is how it is and you can't help but follow it. And the slow pace makes it a lot more melancholic.

Plus the sounds and silence... I mean while reading manga silence is natural unless i put on some music for it (two steps in hell, audiomachine and immeadiate music has enough tracks to make a fitting playlist for most themes). In anime however there's always some sound/music/speech and when it's suddenly left out it weighs on you.
And some sounds makes you recall sad memories (for example all the train soundsdo for me).

I usually think that manga has some merits and anime has others, but in this case the only thing going for the manga over the anme is a couple of scenes fleshed out in greater detail.

Ah, this was very nice. I love that it is staying true to the movie, yet developing many scenes. This is one of the strongest points of the manga medium, thus I have to disagree with Malestel.
The manga has the advantage of not being constrained by time so it can develop these scenes without it becoming boring. And since it's an adaptation of the movie (and not the other way around), you can read/"watch" it as if it were animated.

Since I watched the movie, I can just imagine these extensions with the same atmosphere. And, since I'm listening to the movie soundtrack, it is also kind of nostalgic too.

Although it's still a very pleasant read for newcomers, I feel like this manga is made specifically for those that watched the movie. Doesn't seem like it will be very appealing to others.

Oh this manga certainly brings back memories!! I barely remember the movie at this point, but reading all this stuff certainly brings back memories and makes you feel all nostalgic, melancholic and overall sad over the story of this poor couple.... They meet in such a plain normal fashion that might not be that eye catching but hey that turned out to a nice friendship that was simply torn, ripped apart....

It's really sad to part ways but that's hows life.... It's about meetings, happy moments, kinda sad moments, fun moments... and goodbyes.... So... before moving out... they will meet! Good luck Toono!

I do agree sounds play a big part in anime, but like Arcanus said, time is still on manga and you can take your time imagining them... manga gives you the liberty to imagine, to be more creative... I like this version too!

I haven't watched the movie so this is entirely new to me, but I get the feeling that I'm gonna cry a lot during this read. Great start!

The feels are all coming back to me again, loved this movie 1y ago, and so far I'm enjoying this pacing alot too, showing more of each stage of their lives.
It is probably going to break my heart but so be it, really loving it so far! T_T

I love all the new scenes developing their story and characters more in-depth, especially their childhood days. It brings back all those bittersweet memories of the movie. It's also interesting to hear even more about their inner thoughts, such as Takaki saying he wrote love letters. It was really sad to see the aftermath of Akari telling him of her moving away. It seems like that weighed them down for the rest of their time together and makes things a bit more distant since both are feeling really sad. This is still as sad as the anime. Looks like I'm in for another session of crying after reading this.
