21st Century Boys Chapter 8 Annoying Plot Point

I've just finished this manga in its entirety and I have to say its one of the best manga i're read however theres one particular scene in this chapter thats been sticking in my mind.

In the scene where Kanna disscusses Kenji with Chono (Ch. 8 Pg 12), Kanna says that she feels shes dissappoionted her father figure as Kenji says "You didn't turn out as I'd hoped". This particular line is annoying me as I can't figure out what he meant by that and thought it would get resolved by the end but Kanna only speaks to Kenji in the manga a few more times and doesn't seem to resolve her feelings.

Its particularly irksome becasue of how the relationship between them is the most involving relationship i've probably read in a manga ever so I don't want it to finish thinking that one person is dissappointed in the other and the other feeling forlorn.

A couple of thoughts that I had is that his feelings towards her are demonstrated rather than shown (which happens in the later chapters) but doesn't really sort out the Kenji's apparent dissappointment or that its supposed to show Chono's growing importance to Kanna and the fact that he knows how much Kenji cared and hence help her come to terms with Kenji (As shown in the last chapter).

So thoughts? Its just been bugging me for the reasons described above

it has been some time since i read it but when i went back and checked on this i got the impression that he was a wee bit disappointed at how she had turned out since he left.
perhaps he imagined her as the innocent child he last saw her as.

just my thought about it.

I've read the chapters a few more times now and i'll post my thoughts a little later while I still get it, I still think it should've really been addressed properly

I agree; this should have been looked into with more depth, especially considering the ending of 20th Century Boys.

I think it just shows that Kenji after all is just human. And maybe the sentence wasn't even meant to be mean but just to say that she was diffrent from what he had imagined...?
