私-6th grade kanji?

Ok, so I was wondering. Why is 私 such a high-grade kanji? Is there some special philosophy behind their "I" or what?

I have been taught by my Japanese teacher that 私 is not only used for saying 'I' but for many other things. Though I didn't know it was a high-grade Kanji I guess it's essential for using the Japanese language :)

I think it may just be based on frequency. There's a lot of things that are odd about the order of the characters taught in schools. The thing is, no one is ever kept from learning more on their own, so, it doesn't matter too much, huh? :) If a kid was really interested in their writing system, then they could study it and learn them on their own.
