| hello everyone recently i bought the Kite DVD at greywhale i watched it and thought it was a pretty good anime then i came to update my list and saw the info on it! on MAL it states that there is 2 episodes and they are about 26 mins each well this does not fit my DVD you see it has only one episode on it but the episode is about 45 minutes long. | You've got an edited version, the real length is 1 hour. The vast majority of U.S. releases have been edited to a certain amount due to a controversial sex scene involving an underage Sawa. Although the content is slightly disturbing, it is highly important to the plot and overall tone of the show. If you have never seen the uncut version, you have never really seen kite. This it the ONLY uncut version ever released in the U.S. It was released after much outrage from fans over the censored release. | A Kite certainly is one of the most heavily mutilated anime I know. The bad news is no fully uncensored version in EN exists, despite the fact Kitty Media calls their versions "uncensored" and "director's cut". Not true. Wikipedia has some details, but their claim the Japanese version is 60 mins isn't sourced and I never found that version. Japanese Raw I found on the internet: Part A 27:00, Part B 26:06 -> 53:06 min German version by I-ON New Media (rental): 53:13 min German version by I-ON New Media (retail): 49:50 min US version "US Director's Cut" by Kitty Media: 51:08 min US version "International Version" by Media Blasters: 47:01 min Endless other versions exist, each language/country it was released in did it's own. Norway even made it illegal as child porn. Oh well. But the subs/dubs have been mistranslated intentionally to make her US legal age (not that rape was legal, but you get the idea). There is advertising which talks about a 60 min version by Kitty Media. But I start to believe that is marketing bullshit aka a blunt lie. You won't miss the epitome of cinematic brilliance in a cut version, just a 12 year old girl being raped and mind broken. I watched it first with all sex scenes cut, but they are plot relevant and it's killing plot continuity. This is still ~45 mins of plot with less than 10 mins of porn added. But you probably don't need each and every camera angle of the penetration, do you. You can rather (and probably should, it isn't bad either) watch a predecessor movie by the same director which was released as part of the Cool Devices franchise. It has an extremely similar plot, art style, even more explicit sex scenes, and no censorship at all. You want episode 7 called "Yellow Star". |
