Developer Team MJM has announced an occult-themed RPG called "//signal", which will be the second official game adaptation of the cult original anime "Serial Experiments Lain". The game is set to be released 30 April of this year. It will not be made directly by the creators of the original anime or the first 1998 PS1 game, but has been approved by the title's original creator and made within the established guidelines by the current IP holder.

Do you believe in the potential of this game and what do you think about it? Are you okay with the idea of a game being created by third parties based on the first game adaptation, but with the blessing of the original author?

@Zarutaku They imply that it will be some sort of reboot or alternate version of the first game. I'm not entirely sure how that will work, as they say Lain will still be in contact with characters from the old game in the new story.

I'm interested and it's not a mobile game, but with a retail price of only 1000 yen, I'm not expecting much.

Definitely interested, but I think I would’ve preferred a rerelease of the PS1 game.

Did you hear me?
I said I'm gonna do my best!!

This does not good at all. It looks like a fanmade game that was created in less than 4 months, unfortunately.

@NoUsername09 If you close your eyes to the official promotion, this is essentially an indie project.

Reminded me of yandere sim, a game that had tons of potential.... anyway, it seems lile a chill nice novelty and cute. I would have prefered a remaster or reimagined version of the og ps1 "game", were the story of that one was conveyed better instead of in the clunky interface of that "game" to access the audio files (which had a great atmospheric inside them when clicked with the imagery and sometimes vids).

Still, even after this game, the idea overall of an interesting atmospheric Lain game inspired by the story and aesthetics of the ps1 game have potential, very nice to think about. For example, a visual novel format can translate all of the ps1 game very well, ofc it would have to be pretty long, but that format would fit the best, especially because it would also give space to the sound

guys i don't know much either but this game made by the lain TTL community, it has a remix of wasei jj chikada (the guy who makes se:l music) and the lain producers are aware of it and send a support letter to developers. So it's not exactly official, JJ said in his last live stream that it was created through community effort. also search for Lain TTL thingy, This is a license that allows people in Japan to make and sell fanworks under the name "Lain" until 2028. (im not sure i dont know nihonjin)
