I thought Pain's assault and Jiraiya's tale were the same arc, but yea I really liked the investigation of Pain plus the aftermath that followed. Naruto could have ended after it

I don’t want to be disingenuous and all though pains assault is worth all the hype my personal favorite arc is 4GNW , the series hit that apex several times during this arc (Madara,Obito vs Kakashi,Sasuke vs Naruto,8 gates guy,KCM Minato,DMS Kakashi etc.) and maybe this is my favorite arc because I overlook the 2 problems that get thrown around the most by the fans that being Kaguya becomes the final villain & not Madara and the other is that the arc has a lot of filler, I overlook these problems bc Kaguya was actually foreshadowed it wasn’t just an ass pull & as for the filler you can easily just skip those.

I would agree with this, if I had only read the manga, but having watched the anime as well, the terrible animation of Pain vs Naruto hurts, so the Chunin exams have it beat, by being straight fire in both.

fourth great war had great moments but i honestly disliked most of it, sounded like they crumpet a lot of events and characters in a very short period of time and the power scalling didnt make as much sense for me, plus i think bee shouldve had chackra mode.
My favorites are the chuunin exam, sasuke rescue mission and obviously the pain arc.
