One is seinen. The other is shonen. And it really shows. Not to hate on AoT, but there's a massive difference in both philosophy and presentation of the ideas.

Plus, while Thorfinn has good intentions and I can respect that (I am somewhat a pacifist myself), his line of thinking is VERY flawed and needs a reality check. Won't be surprised if in the next chapter shit hits the fan once again

I feel that Einer will get a strong punch in the face.

I think Thorfinn will establish peace and create a temporary Vinland ... but after he dies things will go bad again because we are talking about humans who love conflict.

Then after hundreds of years we will have modern society with laws that tries to maintain "peace"; not the ideal scenario for Thorfinn but better than nothing

@deg you cannot compare

Shonen stories do not emphasize on character development much and they focus on "action" and "thrill" a lot

Vinland is a seinen that focuses on world building and character building ... Thorfinn was a killing machine but then changed ... the story here has a deeper meaning.

Honestly, I agree with "true victory is not killing your enemies but making peace" because you can your enemy but lose most of your people, money, infrastructure, etc., which is not a true victory. Peace is always better than war

It'll be interesting to see what Einar has to say after he killed that Lnu earlier. It also seems the Nords also know about the new Chief. See you all in March!

While Thorfinn is right regarding peace, you cannot just shrug off what has already occurred or your people's feelings, you yourself brought over there promising them a better life.

Thorfinn talking about leaving so casually, makes it sound easy like he is a lone traveler or something, while he brought so many people with him. Who is going to keep following someone who despite having good intentions puts always his own ideals above his own people's needs.

Einar's expression says it all. Dude changed after the first kill. A friendship might be ruined for good there.

Pretty sure Styrk isn't talking about actual "negotiations" with Einar there. Though Einar's response would decide the course of the things, I mean see his face once.

Btw, that chief guy isn't making out alive I feel. Now to wait two months.

But AOT focus on character development a lot.

Vinland Saga and AOT both have different philosophy which fits perfectly in their own series.

@ZXEAN What character development in AOT? Very superficial development ... it is a things in shonen they don't want authors to focus on logical character development it is mostly "get stronger", "revenge", "for the sake of my friends". In shonen you want the characters to appeal to younger generations; developing the character's personality ruins it for viewers who got attached to the character because of its original personality.

Development is what they call "a character arc", which is "the transformation or inner journey of a character over the course of a story". In Action shonen, it is about getting stronger only and that's very superficial. Some people might disagree but this is my take.

When watching Aot and other shonen stories, you never wait for "character development" you mostly look for the fights and how the story would turn out, no one says "I am looking forward to how X character would develop" as that development is usually limited to power.

It doesn't mean AoT is bad, it is just that this is how it works for shonen magazines; directors used to force authors not to change characters significantly or kill loved characters because they just care about the money and younger generations drop mangas for the slightest reason.

Many anime watchers hated Vinland saga 2 because Thorfinn's character changed and they only wanted a "bad-ass" version of Thorfinn.

Again, this is just my opinion based on the differences I observed between shonen and seinen
