| But it's really strange to cancel the home media release permanently. Like, all that's left from this anime are the broadcast / streaming versions? Even if the company went down, they should have all the animation files for the anime, right? Or maybe all their files went kaput and they don't have anything to work on with? |

| @MaouNemesis It’s possibly that they just don’t think they’d sell enough to recoup the cost of production. Or if they company IS going under they may have sold the rights to pay off some debts. |

| @ricejelly I don't think it's a cost issue. More likely a copyright thing, if I had to guess the author was so pissed at the adaptation he pulled the plug on the contract and rescinded the rights. The stage play was also cancelled apparently (Oshi no Ko S2 style). Blu-ray cost to manufacture is probably 200-500 yen vs sale price of 5,000-8,000 yen so even anime that doesn't sell well would still recoup some production cost by putting the Blu-ray out (production is sunk cost anyway). |
