Hirose Natsuko, according to the first episode
- An animator who quickly made her way from an animator from school to a director
- Many people await her next work because of the works they've seen from her
- She's known as extremely hard to work with as a director
- She tends to want to do everything herself, and is known to frequently ask for large retakes with no advice given
- An incredibly dedicated animator who is a shut in, and isn't known for moving off her desk when she's working.
Now, Mitsue Yamazaki, the director for this show, does not have many of these traits. She was a Production assistant turned director, and while we didn't see anything for her in the production of the shows, she's not notorious for being hard to work with even with the several shows she's made. She also isn't as worldwide recognized or critically acclaimed, as good as her shows are. And even for the episodes for her show, she doesn't show a huge, "I'll do it myself mentality," with her letting many of her assistants and studio people help her throughout the show.
Now, let's compare this to the director for Attack on Titan Yuichiro Hayashi
- An animator who, within 10 years, went into directing his own series (which isn't that quick, but it is faster than some directors get their debuts)
- Many people await Yuichiro Hayashi's next work (Dorohedoro season 2, maybe Kakegurui season 3) after seeing Attack on Titan season 4.
- As 100 cams shows, he's extremely hard to work with, with many of the animators and directors working with him being terrified of him.
- He tends to want to do everything himself (storyboarding a majority of Attack on Titan season 4, all of Dorohedoro season 1, Kakegurui season 1, whilst looking over Key animation, backgrounds, screenplay, special effects, in betweening, etc), and asked for 80 percent of the work submitted to him to be redone (that is not a joke) without initial advice.
- He calls himself not really leaving his desk or talking with other people outside his PAs and people working with him.
What makes it funnier is that the director for Zenshu, Mitsue Yamazaki, worked with him for a few years for AOT season 4 part 1 and part 2, so the fact that she kills off this "Female Yuichiro Hayashi" with food poisoning is really meta. |
