You can see the flowers around Ishida (and many other characters with their own flowers as well) in the special ending of cour 1. The flower around Ishida is Edelweiss, which reflects his rebellious personality against a certain group and his goal. What does that mean?

In the latest episode, we see Ishida nearly dying among these flowers, but at the last moment, his mother plays a role in his survival. That day, combined with the wisdom from his grandfather's journal, convinces him that he must stop Yhwach's tyranny, which began 1000 years ago with the Quincy clans. One thing is also certain: he seeks revenge for his mother as well.

Back to Edelweiss: it also has a different meaning. There was a group called the Edelweiss Pirates, a youth anti-Nazi group. Ishida reflects this group's goals to act against Yhwach's Nazi-like regime. By now, everyone should be able to tell that the Quincy are based on Nazis, a connection also condemned by Ishida's father, Ryuken. Up until the TYBW arc, Ishida didn't know the whole truth and felt proud to be a Quincy, influenced by his grandfather's teachings during his youth. But not anymore.

This is only one example of Bleach's hidden beauty and Kubo's masterful writing.

The motto of BLEACH's writing:
"If it is hidden, it is the flower."
Kubo decides what we should and shouldn't know for 2 purposes.
1. It gives direction to the story, if we always had constant flashbacks and side stories the story would veer off towards another direction.
2. As a writer you want to impress the audience, you cannot do this by revealing absolutely everything to them. Think of it like a magic trick. People are impressed because they don't know what will happen next. If you know what happens next in the magic trick then it becomes boring, and it loses its beauty.

So to keep a secret from your readers helps a work to be more interesting. The principle of "If it is hidden, it is the flower." is taken from “Fushikaden (The Flowering Sprit)” a book written by Zeami a Noh player from the 14th century.

To sum up, never doubt in GoatKubo.

I don't think you need any foreshadowing to figure out that Ishida would turn on Yhwah and return to Ichigo's side, because he is a part of main cast. Duh...

@Piromysl Yeah, yeah, main character blah blah. Still, we already got vague implications in 2022 about his purpose. Tbh, some anime-only viewers might not have predicted his treachery in the latter half of this arc. And as I said, this is only one example. There are many more, such as the Visoreds taking off their captains' coats because they promised Yamamoto never to use their hollow powers. This is just a theory, but it may be true. We would also need to do more research on other flowers to better understand the personalities of other characters

Isn’t that the fun of it? To discover more of the hidden lore?

And people dared to say this cour was mid or bad. Especially how much it’s being downvoted here and on IMDB, apparently. Good lord, when it comes to Bleach, the hater bandwagon is among the most insufferable. Unsurprisingly most of them are Boruto fans…I wonder why 🤔

Anyways, this is a genuinely productive discussion thread, something I rarely see on this site nowadays.

I am Boruto fan and I like Bleach: TYBW. You should not generalize.
