I still haven't watched the first season, so I wanted to ask. Is there any reason to watch it after such a wave of criticism against the second season? Maybe things will somehow improve in new episodes or a conditional new season?

I’d say first season was solid.

If you are a football fan, watch ao ashi not blue lock.
Even if you're not a football fan, do not watch blue lock, it's a soft e-tier anime, the manga is solid d-tier.

First half of season 1 is spectacular, every episode is hype. Second half is so so, I'd say an average of 7/10.

Season 2 is basically cool drawings and colored manga panels with voice acting. Still, season 1 is very much worth watching.

Oh and I liked the Nagi movie too.

@hich4n_ Up to the level of Househusband, when the director tried to justify it with “manga reading vibes”?

@RobertBobert Idk if this season's director (or directors at this point) tried to justify anything, I frankly think they're in disarray over there. Watching the two seasons you just notice the drop in quality, both in animation and directing. I rewatched season 1 a bunch of times and every time the first episodes kept me excited and engaged even if I was already anticipating the events. With season 2 I've felt like dropping the show for some time now...

If you decide to watch season 2 after the first you'll see for yourself, but so far I just recommend watching season 1.

It's both, technically. Yuji Haibara has almost no directing experience, only other project of note being the Slime Diaries anime. He's much more versed in special effects/composite, graphic design and 3D, and you can see in all episodes how heavily he and other directors are trying to use them to cirmcunvent the limited production.

But it is also fact that the focus on eye candy combined with the terrible schedule is leading to the staff having to forcefully cut frames just so that the episode can even air at all. So yeah, terrible situation in all ways.

I'd recommend the manga, It's Top tier. The anime doesn't come close even remotely.

Let's go, at least someone appreciates good football anime. Ao ashi and Blue Lock are day and night. 🤝

As someone who reads the manga and has kept up with the anime, I really don’t get the hate for the second season. I’d say all in all the manga is much much better. Anime wise for me season 1 was all around spectacular, while season 2 just didn’t follow up as good as people hoped. Don’t think it makes it bad though, definitely still watchable.

Second season is terrible and it's not gonna improve anymore. I'd recommend to check out the first season. It has flaws but I definitely enjoyed it. 8/10 for me. At least check out the first episode.

I recommend u watch s1 & then start reading the manga after chapter 87. skip s2, it's 1 of the worst if not THE worst adaptations of all time

I recommend watching s1 first and then start the manga, s2 is just terrible, the animation's not gonna improve at all, it's just a waste of time watching slide shows, the u20 match is also the same apart from the spin they added to the ball - lol

I want to remind you once again that since I didn’t watch the first season, I obviously didn’t watch the second either. Therefore, when I talk about criticism of the second, I focus purely on the words of others. So don’t take this topic as some kind of attack on the show or a stone in its direction.

Definitely watch season 1, but season 2 is horribly animated. So it's up to you if you want to switch to the manga then or watch s2 with the bad animation

Wanna know the real truth? Its good, yes even both seasons😂 The hook of blue lock was never the animation but the hype, writing and art, thats why the manga is so critically acclaimed. I’ll be honest the animation is not the best, especially when you have shows like dandadan but the adaptation is very solid they did everything correct except for animation (which you can really only blame the budget on). Everyone who “hates” season 2 are still watching because they are entertained, they only hate because they know how good it can be not how bad it is. Don’t believe me? try episode 1 and i guarantee you will stop caring about the animation

Theres also the option of reading the manga, which is the correct choice but if thats not your thing then the anime is still good
