Those arcs, which were actual around late 2000s to early 2010s, that is around the time of time skip were years ago.

This is, just like the title says, a fan letter anime, a love letter, not a sequel, or interquel.

It is everyone's choice how they will watch this short, but this is, even though it is happening in the past storywise, still made with the idea that people are already caught up with the latest episodes of Egghead arc.

It is made with the expectation that fans themselves experienced those old arcs a long time ago, and that they went through Fishman Island, Punk Hazard, Dressrossa, etc.

So really, the best time it would be to watch it is after episode 1122, not that there will be anything wrong to watch it earlier, but it really isn't something that should be seen immediately around the time skip era.

I think that it would be 'better' to watch it if you're caught up to One Piece; after all, it's a celebration of One Piece's 25th anniversary, but in regards to what's necessary, then it's after Return to Sabaody.

Of course the more you're invested in the show the better it is, but I'm at 947 and only been watching for a year and it was a 10 for me so it's kind of subjective (I rarely rate anything a 10 btw). I think as long as they pass 522 the feelings should still get through. If they don't like it at that point, I don't think they'll like it at all either way.

Return to Sabaody arc is still around the time skip era.

I concur with this sentiment. If you have just finished Sabaody you could watch the fan letter without any technical spoilers. But who the fan letter, or really love letter, is meant for is people who are processing how much they care for this story.

Sabaody is an arc brimming with excitement for the possibilities of the future. The crew is launching into the new world. Meanwhile the fan letter is all about looking back to understand what makes One Piece so special. How it has impacted the lives of the people who it brings joy too. Capturing the feeling of wonder and possibility that One Piece projects. At the episode in which the fan letter canonically collides with, the story is looking forward but the fan letter is all about looking back.

So really these are people who I believe the fan letter is for:
- People who are up to date right now
- People who get up to date in the next six months
- Maybe people who get up to date when the anime kicks off again?
- Once One Piece finishes, who knows?!

to understand the episode , u should be caught up with sababody. but to throughly enjoy it since it’s a special and an anniversary episode i think being fully caught up is best. overall its up to the viewer. it’s a great episode and you’ll enjoy it either way

One Piece is really good either way…this special episode still surprised me tho I rated it a 10 which I usually don’t really do…so I think as long as u are caught up to past time skip like before they reached Fishmen island it should be fine u will enjoy it either way

I agree, simply because animation in special is fire and modern one piece animation is more often fire.

However I still personally recommend to anyone at any point even if haven't seen HOWEVER I do think if actively trying to watch in chronological order and not yet to this and trying to avoid all "spoilers" then watching right at he start of fishman or something might make the most sense.

True, but for another reason: If you watch this right before Fishman Island, then you will be disappointed by the animation of the following episodes :P
